Subject: Is it me was 1996 very...old fashioned somehow?

Written By: 90s Guy on 08/31/18 at 5:01 am

It's hard to put into words and I suppose a lot of it is colored by own subjective experience. But from the theatrical, operatic music and French setting of Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame, to all the French braids girls my age then (6) were wearing that year, you had Don't Cry for Me Argentina and all of that as well....1996 is honestly probably the weirdest year I have ever lived through.

Speaking of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Claude Frollo may have been the most evil Disney villain ever.

I have to agree.  This is the year I graduated high school.  It was weirdest because of all the snow!  I remember peple being really into bacon and symmetry.  And then there was Alfin.  OH LORD, where did he get that tuxedo??  ;D ;D ;D  My memory is a bit glossy.  I would say it was a pretty average year overall.  Tennis was big (Pete Sampras was a dreamboat).  and many many had a liftestyle change, like going from simple things at McDonald's to a supersize.

Everyone says 1996 was a strange year. And early 1997 as well.... I don't agree and I feel it was just that really obvious cultural transition going from the mid 1990s to later 1990s. It's like nobody knew what to do so we went all out! I do remember some weird tracks that I liked which were released in 1996.

- Kissin' you by Total
- The things that you do(Remix) by Gina Thompson
- Set you free by Planet Soul
- Keep on Jumpin' by Martha Wash and Jocelyn Brown(this one wasn't strange but it was a great dance song!)

I started 1st Grade too, in September 1996. Moved to NJ in January 1997 and got pushed back to Kindergarten because of my birthday (it was after the cutoff).

January to July of ‘96: Somewhat
August to December of ‘96:Not really

My cousin still wears Tommy Hilfiger, plays PlayStation games from time to time, goes to see the Mission Impossible sequels, and watches X-Files (new and old episodes) to this very day.
