Subject: Stereotypical 90s Environment Or Actual 90s Environment

Written By: oldmusicfan on 03/26/20 at 2:43 pm

Would you rather live in the stereotypical 90s environment full of Oasis songs, Millennial childhood fads (I.e.-Tamagotchi), flannel, clear drinks, comedy shows like Beavis and Butthead, and teen movies like Titanic or the actual 90s when Gen Xers were working, Xennials got up there in age, and Millennials were being catered to? Which one is better?

I don’t know what tamagotchi is. And I didn’t consider titanic a teen movie. But other than that what you described was my mid to late 90s. It was a dark time for me. I wouldn’t go back. Flannel however, I wore it in the 80s and I still do. Not of style but of function.

A Tamagotchi is a digital pet by Bandai. Bandai is the same importers who brought out Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers to the masses.

Leo was in Titanic and a lot of early Xennials (teens of the 90s) rushed out to see it.

Flannel was worn more in the mid to late 90s, so it is synonymous with those eras more than any other era before or after the mid to late 90s.

Those are virtual pets.

So, you would live in the actual 90s or at least the early 90s?

Early 90s for sure. Loved it.

How is this stereotypical? And how were Xennials getting up there in age? We were just teens. Made me laugh though!

All of the things like ABC TGIF, Blockbuster nights, the Pizza Hut versus Dominos war, Super Nintendo versus Genesis war, and etc. etc. are all gone from the stereotypical 1990s.

Our childhood days were behind us in the 1990s. I should have phrased that differently.

Actual 90s because I, as a Millennial was being catered to. 😤

What are your favorite 90s things?

Mainly TV. Like Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network and sometimes Disney. I’d watch things on other channels (like Wild Discovery.) That’s where my most fondest memories of the 90s come from. Movies too. Some music. Otherwise, I kinda struggled a little bit in school and didn’t have the greatest time socializing with others. (I was an only child with aspergers)  :P For Music, TV, Movies...ect I prefer the 90s. But for personal life, I prefer the 2000s.

Better to be a 5-9 or 22-30 in 1988 to 1993-1994

Preteen to around 21 is a not an ideal period in any era.

Slashpop, you seem to be quite fascinated with the years 1988 to 1993/‘94. Care to elaborate why you like these years so much.

1988 to 1994 or only late 1994? What are you referring to?

1988 to early 1994 of course best era

I like mid 90s too, better in many respects than periods after. And late 70s to late 80s.

What specifically did you take away from the years 1988 to 1994?

I can’t get into culture from 1993 to 1994. Gosh, the mid 90s were boring.

1989 mid 1992 is the best period.

1993 and 1994 still produced some great stuff of the same nature

superior to late 94 to early 1998 which can be interpreted as boring but still superior to mid 1998 to early 2004.

There are some folks who thought 1987 to mid 1989 was better than the years 1989 to 1992 and pop culturalists who prefer 1993 to mid 1995 over 1989 to 1992. I just like the HW Bush years over what came after them.

The late 90s into the 2000s were okay, but 1993 to 1995 rubs me the wrong way for some reason.
