Subject: When did the early 90's hip-house/eurodance trend start?

Written By: batfan2005 on 08/06/21 at 8:10 am

I believe the subgenre started with Technotronic's "Pump Up the Jam" but is that considered a 1989 song or 1990 song? It was released in late 1989 but became popular in early 1990. Then it was their follow up hit "Get Up (Before the Night is Over)" and the same group renamed as Ya Kid K, along with other hits by Snap, Black Box, C+C Music Factory, and many others.

You're correct. It started in 1990.

Hip-house is thought to have started in 1986 with "Rok Da House" by the Beatmasters featuring Cookie Crew

Actually I was thinking 1989 since that's when the 90's began, lol. Also when did it end? It seemed like it continued in the mid-90's even though the sound started to vary, like with Haddaway's "What is Love", and in the late 90's it was the bubblegum pop style like Aqua and Vengaboys.
