Subject: Texan spiders spin 'monster web'

Written By: Philip Eno on 08/31/07 at 2:51 pm

From BBC News Online:

An enormous spider web has been found at Lake Tawakoni State Park, Texas, US.

It is not the work of one giant spider - rather, millions of small ones have been spinning away and now it is twice the size of a football field.

Park rangers are not sure why the spiders have joined forces - they describe it as a rare occurrence.

Texas A&M University entomologist Professor John Jackman told Associated Press that there were reports of similar webs every couple of years.

The web covers a 180m (650ft) stretch of trees and shrubs in the park.

Well, we didn't make it down because of the storms.
It would have been awesome to see though. Hopefully it will stay together a little longer because I know for a fact that we will be up that way next weekend.... no matter what!!!

Here is a batter pic of it from the State Park itself!

I find this amazing, hasn't the wind blown the webs away yet?

Nope - and not even the torrential rainfall they saw from Tropical Storm Erin bothered it one bit! :o
