Subject: Burglar inventor atones for his crimes

Written By: Philip Eno on 10/16/10 at 10:14 am

A former burglar who invented a fingerprint recognition lock is installing it into the homes of crime victims free of charge.

Yang Guihua, 29, came up with his invention while serving a four year jail sentence for burglary, reports the Chongqing Evening Post.

He gained a patent for his idea while still in prison and set up a company to manufacture the locks when he was freed.

Yang said he decided to install the locks for free in the homes of 100 victims of burglary on Chongqing to help repay for his sins.

He has already installed the first free lock, into the home of Zhou Xinbing who was burgled in September.

"It makes me feel a bit better to help these people make their homes more secure," he explained.

"The locks do not need keys and will only open when the sensor recognises the householder's fingerprint.

"Even if the sensor is damaged, the owner can still open the door remotely by calling a number on their mobile phone and typing their password."
