Subject: Spanish reality show follows aspiring nuns

Written By: Philip Eno on 01/25/16 at 9:13 am

A new reality TV show which will film aspiring nuns entering convents in Spain will give an insight into an "unknown world", producers say.

The programme, called I Want To Be A Nun, will follow five young women as they experience the day-to-day realities of the vocation, The Local website reports. The women, who all feel they have a religious calling, will be allocated to one of three convents - in Madrid, Granada and Alicante.

They will spend six weeks with the resident nuns, taking part in activities including caring for hundreds of children in a creche, living in a 500-year-old closed order and working with missionaries in the Bolivian jungle, production company Mediaset Spain says. Producer Mariano Blanco says he hopes the show will shine a spotlight on a group "rarely seen" on television.

It's not the first time that nuns have ventured into the world of reality television. In 2014, Sister Cristina Scuccia won the Italian version of singing contest The Voice, subsequently releasing Like a Virgin as her first single. A year later, viewers in Mexico watched Sister Florinda Ruiz compete in the country's first series of MasterChef.
