Subject: Car Trouble Again

Written By: Indy Gent on 01/15/02 at 07:15 p.m.

It never fails. Every time I make a life changing purchase on something like an apartment or a computer, something happens that empties my checking account faster. Like the trouble I have had with my car this week. I heard some hissing and grinding in my car, so I took it to a service station. It cost almost $500 to replace all my brakes and cylinders. Then I find out my transmission needs repair. I hope it is not serious like a full replacement, but I had trouble with the steering, which may or may not be a transmission failure.  >:(Any mechanics or experts that can help?  ???

It could be worse....

My brother has been driving around with an expired sticker for almost a year now.  ::)   :-X  It will cost him close to $1000 to get it to pass, and for that he's saving up to get a new one.

It's lots of fun trying to go anywhere with him, as he tries to avoid attracting attention to himself.

Cue up.... "Bad Boys, Bad Boys...What you gonna do..." :D  ;D

You may want to have the steering checked....especially if you have rack and pinion steering.  I had a car that had this problem TWICE and another that had it once!  >:(  It's cheaper to go to a used parts lot to replace this, but you get what you pay for, you know what I mean?   :-[  Hope it works out for you! :)

I could write out a list of steps you need to take to fix your car, but you'd probably leave out one of the crucial ones and it wouldn't work anyway...  ::)

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles, America.  :'(  I hope things start to turn around for you soon!  :-*

wow, I didn't think Candian money was even worth that much!

when I was in high school, we went to Quebec for February vacation, stayed in a hotel room with three other guys. Somewhere along the line, we got into the habit of pitching our change into the wastebasket (which we had filled with ice and soda much to the chagrin of the mgmt. hey, free ice and the real ice bucket was way too small for a six pack). at the end of the week, I drained the bucket and grabbed the change since no one else wanted it. Canadian change in America is a total irritant, it's not worth as much as American change, and it doesn't work in the vending machines even though they tend to dispense it. Exchanging it at the bank didn't seem worth the effort either. So I brought it home, gave it to my father, and he'd hand it out in change at our gas station.

I sympathize with anyone who has car troubles.. I was the son of an automechanic.. my cars were always crap and never ran worth a damn. When you know how to fix something, it's more likely to break. When my father retired, I bought a new car to break the curse  ;D

I bought my last car for £1500 and spent more than that in the six months I owned it just to keep it running! everytime I drove the damn thing it broke down, turns out it had been in a bad front end smash and I shouldn't have touched it with a barge pole.Next time I'll take someone who knows something about cars with me !!

The belt broke on my steering column. The total cost, alone with transmission service, serpentine belt, and oil pan replacement, was approx. another $334.57. >:(. I hope this is the last time I have trouble with any car, though I doubt that there will ever be a trouble free automobile. Thanks for the support. :)
