Subject: Weird Pizza Toppings

Written By: XenaKat13 on 01/29/02 at 08:39 a.m.

I debated with myself whether or not to reply on the other thread, or start a new one. I realized with so many names for cold, non-alcoholic drinks, and sandwiches bought usually, but not always at a pizza shop we had the potential to go on into infinity.  ;)

So for my inspiration:

Quoting:tuna on pizza.. hmm.. never heard of that before myself.. some people are really picky about their pizza, and believe things like pinapple and "back bacon" (Canadian ham, eh?) don't belong on a pizza.. we have a pizza place in my town that does a sweet and sour chicken pizza, which is chicken and sweet and sour sauce.. very sweet.. I can feel new cavities just thinking about it.. there was a very short lived movement that was calling out for the end of non-traditional toppings, but considering the success of the California Pizza chain, I doubt it will ever catch fire.. what can I say? We all grew up watching Scooby and Shaggy put all kinds of strange things on their pizza (like ice-cream).. End Quote

What's the weirdest thing you have ever seen or heard of put on a pizza?  Do you like it or not?  And since this covers all decades, I couldn't really decide where else to put it. ???

My weird pizza?  There is a place here that will put a cold salad on your pizza, complete with dressing of your choice.   :-X  :-X And yes, that's on top of a traditional cheese-and-tomato sauce pizza.  It is not available for take-out, only eat-in. :P  And no, I have not tasted it.

When I was living in CA, one of the pizza place put out a "California Pizza".  You got one meat topping of your choice, and a ton of veges, which included all the standards (black olives, green peppers, onions, mushrooms, tomatos) and what apparently were extra veges that were available on the salad bar (zucchini, cauliflower, brocolli, and perhaps others).  Luckily I couldn't taste the zucchini of cauliflower.

While it's not really Pizza, there's a really good Italian restaurant in Washington D.C. (or Alexandria, can't remember) called Generous George's.  Pretty much all their italian dishes, no matter what pasta, sauce, or whatever; was served on top of bouboli style dough. Rather interesting and it makes for good leftovers ;)

I don't know about a whole lot of weird toppings and all, but I know that in Mississippi, Catalina (non-creamy French) dressing is a staple with regular/avarage pizza. Just pour it on and "go to town".  ;)

What is it about pizza and salad dressing?  Over here, we eat Ranch dressing on our pizza. Next time I eat pizza though, I'll try Catalina dressing instead. What does it taste like anyway?

Where in Mississippi, Hairspray? I've never heard of this particular practice, although I do know some people around here who dip their crust in Ranch dressing. Personally, I prefer putting salad shrimp on my pizza, right over the pepperoni and cheese...  ;D

We do the Ranch dressing too.  Though I only dip the crust in it, my best friend will put it all over the top of the pizza.  I don't think I'd care for it with Catalina dressing, but ya never know!  ;)  But then again, I'll try Ranch dressing on darn near anything... ::)

Ok here in the U.K just about everything goes !! Vegetables on pizzas is standard as is 'seafood'as in tuna, prawns, anchovies etc.Tuna and sweetcorn is a favorite of mine. One pizza place in Oxford did a 'christmas'pizza with turkey, stuffing, potatoes, sprouts and cranberry sauce on it.
As to the weirdest topping I have ever heard of that would be Tuna and Banana

I do what your friend does. I smear it all over the top of the pizza and add crushed red peppers and parmesan cheese. Man, all this talk about pizza makes me want it. ;D

For sheer madness, try the chocolate pizza at CiCi's Pizza. It's not really a pizza, but it is an interesting dessert.

One of the local sweet shops used to do something like that.  They called it a "cookie pizza" or something similar.

It was a giant soft-baked chocolate chip cookie. (pizza-sized naturally)  The toppings were frosting, gumdrops, licorice, raisins, M & M's, and other types of candy (nuts optional  ;) )

They would custom decorate it for you just as you would a cake in most cases.

I always thought pineapple and anchovies were weird stuff to be putting on pizza, but I found out it was common. Maybe because I don't like anchovies. :P

Of course, Spam is a registered trademark now... remember that advert ages ago over here? # There's nothing else quite like it and that's why they call it Spam(R) #... That used to... perplex me.

I became a vegetarian because I hated spam so much.   ;)  Well, maybe not because of spam, but it would be a good enough reason.  Don't you think?

If you knew the association with spam and where I live you would understand why they would even consider spam as a topping.  They called it the Chamorro Pizza.  Some people and their ideas.

when it comes to pizza, i'm really boring.  i only eat plain pizza.  if i'm feeling daring, i eat pepperoni pizza.  (shocking, i know!! :o :D)  i don't do extra cheese because 1) then there's too much cheese and 2) it gets stuck in my braces.  (not like you needed to know that.)

my brother does apparently put ketchup on domino's pizza.  :-X  it is my strong belief that tomato sauce and ketchup were not meant to be mixed.

and...salad dressing on pizza?!  i've never heard of that! :o  off-topic, but my brother uses salad dressing on beef. :-X
