Subject: My theme song

Written By: langdon_hughes on 04/26/02 at 02:23 p.m.

So if someone were to take a series of shots of your life and set it to music, what would the music be?

More importantly, what should mine be, considering that this has to be respectful and professional, so "Superfreak" is out?

That's a tough one, but I must admit to empathizing with Tuxedomoon's "St John," "What Use," "In A Manner Of Speaking," and "Egypt" - my whole life summed up in four songs. For a less eclectic choice I'd sum it up in "If You Want" by Depeche Mode, New Order's "Vicious Streak," Duran Duran's "Pop Trash Movie," and Chris Isaak's "Can't Do A Thing (To Stop Me)"...

well, since i've had a lot of troubles with crappy men and low self-esteem, i've adopted 'brass in pocket' by the pretenders as my theme song.  it always gives me a boost when i'm down and keeps me peppy when i'm already in a good mood 'cause it always reminds me that "i'm special, so special" :D

actually, i think that song's good for any lady, girl, chick, woman, whatever.

Tarzan Boy probably remembers this one..."She Makes me Quiver" by Stephen Tin Tin Duffy. It was mine for years: "Sheeeeeeeee's got a lot of proooooblems..."
After that came "Bloodletting" by Concrete Blond. A lot of Tori Amos. Recently it's been "In the Middle" by Jimmy Eat World. I just like being called a little girl at the age of 32. I find it comforting.

edited just 'cause

For a moment I thought you were talking about Book Of Love's "Quiver." But I'm quite familiar with Tin Tin's song and "Bloodletting" (I don't drink, though, but I do walk around and think...).

"Dangerous Type" by The Cars. I think about this song sometimes. I see a woman I like and the tune just goes in a little loop automatically (radio-inside...?).

Of course, the crushing reality of impossiblity hurls me back into NIN's shred mix of "Down In It" combined with Tuxmoon's "St John" over and over until the room spins in a sepia-coloured haze - it's beautiful.

Depends on my mood, and what I'm in the middle of, as to what's most appropriate, but...

I'd like for it to be "Freaks Come Out At Night" by Whodini, but actually, it's more like "Goody Two Shoes" by Adam Ant.

Some days it seems that "Survivor" by Destiny's Child or "November Spawned A Monster" by Morrisey are more likely.

But things always seem to get better... ;D

Whenever I hear about my ex whining that he wishes we'd never split up?  It's "I'd Rather Set Myself On Fire" by Annabouboula....

"What you lack, I require
What you fear, I desire.
And my soul will be forever alone,
this house will never be my home.

I'd rather set myself on fire, than burn in your house of love."

Don't mind me,  he's been whining to old friends that he wants me back, knowing it will find its way to me.

"My Life" by Billy Joel.  Or "You May Be Right" by Billy Joel.  Or "Exciteable" by Def Leppard.  And "Great Day To Be Alive" by Travis Tritt (even though I'm not a T.T. fan).  And "Kiss This" by Aaron Tippin.  "What If Jesus Comes Back Like That" by Collin Raye.

You know, I could name a thousand songs....it all depends on where I was, where I am, and how far I've come. :)

A serious song, langdon?  I could think of a ton of smarta$$ed ones.  lol ;)  How about "I Didn't Know My Own Strength" by Lorrie Morgan?

Okay, I just thought of one: remember that Romeo Void tune? No, not, "Never Say Never," but "A Girl In Trouble (Is A Temporary Thing)" - great song, IMHO. As for myself, to-day's themes are brought to me by The Cure and, again, Tuxedomoon: "Killing An Arab" (beginning theme) and "l'etranger" (ending theme). It's really sunny at the beach to-day and very colorful (the museum only has one floor, though and drinking fountain ) - wish you guys could be here...

"Girl in Trouble" PERFECT...unfortunately I did the project yesterday. I did indeed go with the cheeze-o-rama option of Rosemary Clooney. Next time. Totally temporary thing.

As for the other, I have no idea. Where are you? Props comin' yo' way, but
I don't know which way that is.

Was at Oceanside again. It's like 3rd-rate Long Beach, but a few days before I noticed a sign that said Museum of Art - well, I sort of played hookie and invited myself on Thursday. "Museum" is an overstatement; it's more of a "large living room" with some 30-40 odd works of art by the locals (there are two or three highlights though). Long Beach had three Kandinsky's, not to mention they have a current exhibit on amateur and proffessional pewter work from the 17th and 18th centuries (not for the faint of heart - I mean - short attention span ::) I rather liked it!). Still, nothing beats the LA Co Museum and The Getty, except the horrendous traffic and parking situation - and that's why I stick to small-time museums and showcases.

So here I am, looking through the old threads for one that I'm now convinced was lost in the "crash" last April, and I noticed that many of our regulars never posted to this thread.
