Subject: What songs would you cover? (Revisited)

Written By: Junior on 04/28/02 at 05:20 p.m.

This might've been a thread in one of the decades board, but I'll just revive it here. If you had a cover band, what songs would you cover?

I'd do almost any song if I could...but I'd definitely wanna do these:

Give Me One Reason/Tracy Chapman
Fastcar/Tracy Chapman
Turning Japanese/The Vapors
Kids In America/I forget who
One Way Or Another/Blondie
We're All Dudes/Less Than Jake featuring Kel Mitchell (of "All That", "Kenan & Kel", "Good Burger", & "Mystery Men" fame)
In The End/Linkin Park
My December/Linkin Park
Sunday Morning/No Doubt
Please Play This Song On The Radio/NoFX (or almost any song by NoFX)
Why Don't You Get A Job/Offspring
Bootylicious/Destiny's Child
Differences/Ginuwine
Mama Said Knock You Out/LL Cool J
Underneath Your Clothes/Shakira
U Got It Bad/Usher
Come Sail Away/Styx
Most Jimmy Buffett songs

...more later.

I'd cover Garbage music, which I frequently do in kareoke bars, anyway.

I also would cover a lot of the torch-singer type stuff, as my voice is somewhat low.

"Let My Mother Live" Ozzy Osbourne
"Madame De La Luna" Marc Almond
"A Lover Spurned" Marc Almond
"Death's Diary" Marc Almond
"I'd Rather Set Myself On Fire" Annabouboula
"I Love The Night" Blue Oyster Cult
"Nosferatu" Blue Oyster Cult
"In Dulce Decorum" The Damned
"Ouija Board, Ouija Board" Morrisey
"Blasphemous Rumors" Depeche Mode
"Beat On The Brat" the Ramones
"Tragic Hero" Funker Vogt
"Oops" Tweet
"You Can't Kill Me" Lene Lovich
"No Woman, No Cry" Bob Marley
"All Souls Night" Loreena McKennitt

This is all just off the top of my head, and assuming I've hired a singer that can sing better than I can.

And yes, I know the musical style is going all over the place here.  That's why the singer needs to be better than me.  *I* could certainly never do these songs justice.

I would still remake those I listed before "4/11". But here are some I can remember:
"You Are So Beautiful"-Joe Cocker (which I did before, terribly)
"On Broadway"-Drifters (with more of a jazzy beat)
"Dreamweaver"-Gary Wright
"Dream On"=Aerosmith
"Junk Food Junkie"-Larry Groce
"I Can't Explain"-The Who (Because, if I'm not mistaken, no American acts have covered it)
I would also put lyrics in "Frankenstein" by the Edgar Winter Group)
