Subject: Another Lyrics quiz

Written By: FussBudgetVanPelt on 04/29/02 at 06:12 a.m.

I started this one before the 'great crash' of 2002.  No-one much had bought into it, so I will re-launch it.  I have also added one :

Three songs - name the song and artist, where song includes this word :

Song 1 - Empress

Song 2 - Empressario

Song 3 - Affiliation

Hints :

No hint for number 1 - I think that will go off pretty quickly

Number 2 - Extremely famous british artist who has had works spanning the last five decades - a friend of mine finds him frustrating because he often throws in "Dum De Dum, Do Do Da Da" lines instead of 'real' lyrics (But Bobo, L.L.B. or whoever you are, what would my friend know, he's a Wolves supporter !)

Number 3 - Alsmost as famous american artist who has had works spanning the last five decades - has dabbled in music from other cultures

Fuss, I admit to not knowing any of the above three, if you'll admit to not knowing "scabbard."  ;) A... more clues??

Zella

I've already admitted to not knowing scabbard (or I thought I had).

Clue 1 : Wizard of Oz

Clue 2 : Singer has been knighted (hmm that cuts it down...)

Clue 3 : The singers friend was in the movie Catch-22

Hmmmm. I'm trying to remember who was knighted. Paul McCartney? Elton John?

OK Zella. Where's Banasy when FussBudget does these puzzles? IINM, he's the one who started this quiz stuff. Is she going to "bop his bippers"? ;)
BTW, I think #2 is "Take It Away" by Paul McCartney.
I'm sorry, Fuss, but I believe it's Olympus, not empress in #1, which is "Africa" by Toto.

Well said JC - where is everyone ?  I don't think (IMOHO) that my quizzes are as hard as Zella's - but maybe that's because I know the answers.

OR THOUGHT I DID !!!  :-[

Your answer re # 1 (Africa by Toto) is certainly the one I had down.

But your answer :

"...Rises like Olympus above the Serengeti..."

makes sense lyrically, as does mine :

"...Rises like an Empress above the Serengeti..."

but a check of the Internet reveals that there is a third option floating around :

"...Rises like a Lepress above the Serengeti..."

So now I'm Really confused !

I found my LP of Toto IV, but it has no lyrics sheet.  So I went to Toto99.com and found the following :

The end result is that JC is correct, and I am WRR...Wrrr...Wrrr... Incorrect !  :-[

WELL DONE JC !

By the way JC, #2 was spot on - Paul McCartney - Take it Away

Another hint, as none of you have begged ?

Only Number 3 remains :

The song could well be about a medical condition

Seinfeld did an episode regarding this subject

Tee hee! I don't have any idea of the real answer, but the clues put me in mind of the following by a British artist:

"Come to Realize" by Ronnie Wood

Guess I have a naughty mind. ;D

Outrageous ! Where's all the moderators when you need them !

Not THAT Seinfeld episode.....

Well now that you've got me on that track...

Come as you are - Nirvana     ;)

or my personal favourite :

Come Together

There are of course many more...Dexy's Midnight Runners all of a sudden have a lot of explaining to do....!

Zella - a new side of you has emerged (do you like the way I have attempted to turn this around back to you ?)

Or maybe "Lola" by The Kinks, only because of that "Seinfeld" episode about the model with "man's hands".
