Subject: Congratulations to Alicia14....
She passed Standard math tests 1 and 3. Now she just needs to pass Standards 2 and 4. These determine if you move onto your second year of high school. For those of you who don't know, Alicia14 has been having a bad time with math, but she has a tutor now and she's doing great! She also passed a regular math quiz with no trouble. Congratulations to Alicia and Jessica. :) But it's fortunate you didn't have to take the wacky ISTEP test, where they want to raise the bar on the standards until the students' heads are in the clouds. ::)

I dislike those stupid tests very much!!!! Next year my daughter will be taking ISTEP, at th beginning of the year...she will be in third grade.
The catch is, she will be tested on material she won't have even learned yet!!!!!!

It's a political ploy in an effort by our state officials to make them look better than the students or teachers. History shows our "elected" officials do not care about education as they would like us to believe. I don't blame Governor O'Bannon, but I'm not preventing anyone else to. >:(

Well, my older kids took ISTEP also, so it can't be just the current gov...
But I think you are right when you say that the stakes keep getting raised...you should see what they are making the kindergarnders do this year!!! I wonder if they are trying to rely on pre-school too much?

I know how hard my students have to work to catch up their Math skills once they've fallen behind. It's a difficult subject, and I'm very proud of you for putting in the effort to not only pass your Standards tests, but to excel in your regular work. (23/24? WOW!!! :o )

Way to go Alicia....I feel for you...I hated math (still do) and had the hardest time with it from the first grade all the way through college......so stick with it.....sounds like you are on your way to being a math wiz!!!!!!!!!!!!
