Subject: "Great Voices, Wasting Away"

Written By: RockandRollFan on 05/12/02 at 09:13 p.m.

What, In YOUR opinion, are some of the wasted voices of music.......For me it's....
Patty Smyth from Scandal, once considered for the Lead singer of Van Halen
Steve Perry from Journey, great first solo album and not much since...
John Waite from the Babies...great solo hits, "Missing You" & These Times Are Hard For Lovers"

Your sadness?

There are a few that I can think of right off the top of my head, but I don't know if anyone would know what I'm talking about. Here they are anyway:

1. Ian Curtis (Joy Division)
   - Although I must admit to liking Bernard Sumner's voice a hell of a lot more (including David Gahan!).

2. Rozz Williams (former lead singer of Christian Death and The Shadow Project)
   - Great music, especially their Catastrophe Ballet album.

3. Michael Hutchense (INXS)
   - Need I explain how great this band was?

The worst part of all is that these singers don't have the chance to make any "comebacks" and the world of music has lost an insurmountable amount of lyrical genius.

I just heard that dude is going to play at the Orange County Fair along with some other famous 80s acts as well as OC ones (like Save Ferris and The Supertones). Uh huhuh...I'm there.

Back to the topic:

When In Rome, Animotion, Front 242, Clan Of Xymox, Tuxedomoon, and a whole bunch of New Wave acts from daze of yore. I think they deserve more than obscurity and a few passing lines from a crazed New Waver like moi.

Journey is touring again. Does anyone know if Steve Perry is still the lead singer? Or has he been replaced?
