Subject: (sigh)

I have been attacked by a virus that has completely screwed up my computer. Im at school now so if i dont come on for a while it must be fixed. Maybe I'll take out the laptop and use that, but I only get 4 hours a month on that... sigh...

Do not open a message asking if you own a business with a nonsense e-mailer from yahoo? It has a virus known as WORM on it and it keeps you from closing out of your computer and sends more out every time you sign onto your e-mail account.

Bye, bye

I'll come again soon.

Sorry to hear about that.  I got the blackhole virus once, nasty virus.  I installed Mcafee and haven't had a prob since.  I usually delete all the junk email before I even open it.  I can't tell you how many of those "Make money at home" emails I have gotten.  I definately don't open attachments unless I know the person mailing it.  Good Luck.

Stupid frog too, right?

I'm sorry to hear about the virus. I've downloaded the AVG Virus scanner, which eliminates them as soon as they appear, but I'm not sure whether they would work for viruses such as that one. Anyone got any clue? I'm not very up on these things.

Not to mention "Clear Your Debt Now", right?

I've only recieved a virus from someone I actually know one time, but thanks to Norton I caught it.

Tip: Don't give your e-mail out on public 'boards, chat, etc...recieved virus-ed attachments three times in one week. >:(

That's why I have two e-mail accounts.  My first one I call my "spam-catcher" account.  That's the one I use on chat, messageboards, all online shopping, newsletter subscriptions ect.  I have mine on Yahoo! which is free if you read your mail  while online.  I think Hotmail, IWon, and a few others offer free accounts, too.

My personal address, only my family really has (..and one friend who is close enough to be considered 'family'). That way, 99.9% of all spam stays out of my personal account.

As far as attachments go, the one virus I got sent to me at my personal account was sent to me unknowing by my brother.  Rather than send each other attachments, we now "copy and paste" regular documents, and send links to pictures instead of the actual pictures.

Recommendation: If you use Outlook (or Outlook Express) as an email client, get something else - it's a piece of piss to write an Outlook email virus, especially with the "incorrect mime header" vulnerability, which means that Outlook will run a virus as soon as you look at the message if it describes itself as a background sound file.  You can either download the IE patch to fix this, or just get out of Outlook altogether.  Personally I recommend the second course of action - there are some excellent free/cheap email clients out there (The Bat, Eudora etc).  I've taken to PocoMail mainly because it can split multiple addresses to one domain, but The Bat comes very highly recommended.

I never use Outlook at home, though I use it all the time at work. Of course, at work most of my email comes from either coworkers or friends (no spam) and I'm working on a Mac here anyway so virtually none of the viruses will affect me. ;D

Sorry for your troubles! Now, I have a habit of not opening ANY E MAIL that I don't recognize, but even then, it can sometimes be risky! In the past, people have sent me viruses through the E MAIL of friends, and thinking it is from a friend I recognize, I've opened it! BAD NEWS! So, I suggest, if ANYTHING looks even remotely strange, I would verify with that friend if they DID INDEED send you anything BEFORE opening it! In some of these cases, I have found out that my friend DID NOT send such E MAIL!

Peace,Vivian
