Subject: Action vs. Horror

Written By: richbeatles10 on 05/20/02 at 05:24 p.m.

I believe Action movies are much more exciting, although you do get a rush from getting terrified.  The suspense in the action movies make it fun to watch.  And in action movies they talk more about the real world, wherein horror movies there are few true horror stories, which shouldn't be aired.

I like action is a lot better than horror.  A lot of horror movies today, IMO of course, are stupid.  I would rather watch action than "I see dead people."

Action and suspense, not horror. A lot of horror passes gore as scary. It's just gross.

I think it's a matter of personal taste.  I have seen a lot of poorly written action movies that have nothing to do with the real world.  Like "True Lies".  The scene were the hero drops the machine gun and it fires by itself, and conveniently cuts down all the bad guys just will not happen, at all, ever.  Ask anyone who has been in the military. (But before anyone yells at me or calls me names I loved it!!)

I also loved "The Mummy" starring Brendan Frasier.  Most other action movies I can do without, especially if there is another good movie out at the same time.

I agree with J.C.  modern "horror" films are not horror, really.  They are just "slasher" films, in it for the cheap shock value.  But what about "Silence of the Lambs" or the classic "Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte"?  No more blood and guts in those two than you would normally see in 'real life' yet they scared the beejeebers out of me. :o  I mean, sleep-with-all-the-lights-on-even-at-my-age scared.

Now that I'm done yammering, Iguess you could say, for modern films I prefer 'action' but for the classics I like 'horror' best.

How's that for being wishy-washy?

I could go for either depending on the story involved! If a well developed plot is involved, then action OR horror could be good! I must confess, though, horror movies don't scare me!

Peace,Vivian

It depends on my mood. I have to be in the mood for a horror movie but I can watch an action movie anytime!

~I like classic horror movies better than the ones from today. I guess to me, movies of today are made to look so real that it isn't even fun anymore. Classic action movies like "Back to the future" are great too.
