I hope that they find her soon.  It's a sad story.  At first I thought maybe she'd met someone on the net or something and was actually with him.  (I guess that could still be the case, but looking like not)
And then I read today that her dad was hospitalized for exhaustion.  That has to be a terrible thing to go through.  I hope she turns up--alright--soon.
And how sadly ironic that this has happened right around the time that Danielle Van Dam's accused killer is starting his trial....  :'(

I've been following this story on the news. I hope and pray that they find her safe and sound and are able to return her to her home...

Very sad indeed. Especially knowing that the kidnapper probably got the idea from a cheap B-movie.
To the abductor(s): God is watching you. And you know that what you did was wrong in His eyes. So please do the right thing and give Elizabeth Smart back to her grieving family, alive and unharmed, before you regret the alternative.
I would also like to use this space to help us find Jill Behrman, the IU co-ed cyclist who was kidnapped 2+ years ago. The $100,000 reward for any information to her assailants still stands, with contributions to the amount welcome. Please call the following numbers if there is anything on Jill:
Bloomington (Ind.) Police Dept.-(812) 349-3325
FBI at (812) 332-9275.

This was my first thought, too.  We had a girl here do that a couple of years ago.  She was 14, ran off with a man she met on the internet and the found her body 11 months later. :'(  Then again, this could be like the Polly Klaas murder where the kidnapper didn't know her or her family from adam and just happened to be in the area.  It is really scary..excuse me, I need to go hug my daughter.

I heard her dad on the radio saying that she couldn't have met anyone on the net because she never used it. But how could he really know? Schools have computers, her friends no doubt have computers, and she could have used the one at home after her parents went to bed. I don't mean for this to sound bad, but that's a pretty naive answer by her father.

In any case, I hope they find her alive and well also, and that the creep who took her gets his just punishment. Nothing is too severe!!

I brought this topic back to the front page because I was just watching some more about it on the news.  It is getting creepier by the day, and much more confusing.  Now the police are saying that they misinterpreted information from the little sister, and the gunman DIDN'T threaten her.  Just a general observation, but it seems to me that the family knows more than they are willing to let on. I'm not saying they are involved, but....  Before I turn this into a Ramsey comparison....any thoughts on the new "leads"?

You're right, it does sound like there's more going on than we are being told.

I can see why the police may be reluctant to let on all that they know.  They don't want to give the person(s) who did it a chance to change their story, or get away.

I hope they find her soon.  My prayers are still with the family.

...and her sister now changed her story...it just gets more bizarre by the moment...kind or reminds me of the Susan Smith murderer and how she chnaged her story to the cops over and over...I wonder what the next lie in this case will be.

Personally, I don't think that "drifter" guy had anything to do with this. He was just in the wrong place and happened to have a shady past and a warrant for some petty crimes like bouncing checks or something like that (I think...).

I agree, the family does seem to have more information than they are giving out.  I don't expect to know every little detail--I totally understand that the police can't give all of it to the public.  BUT...it seems like some very important details seem to be changing almost daily.  I can understand how a 9 year old (such as the sister) could get "confused"..but I don't see how investigators could misinterpret 'threatened' or 'not threatened' after what, 3-4 questionings with this little girl?  And recently now they have came out with the whole garage door thing.  How could a parent of a missing child forget that their garage door was left open for a "few hours"...some of which were in the evening?  On the very night that their daughter disappeared?  Bad enough that a HUGE, multi-million dollar house such as theirs didn't have a burglar alarm on.  I know of folks that have a smaller place, not nearly as "impressive" as the one in question, who always have their home security system on.  I don't mean to second guess the family, and I really, truly hope they can find their daughter soon--I can't even imagine what it must be like for them.  BUT...when you are going to be plastered all over the news in the hopes of help in finding a child, you have to be aware that your inconsistencies are also going to be watched and, possibly, questioned.  I have also heard that they are unwilling to allow for a sketch artist to take the sister's description of the kidnapper.  Why?  Unless it's because they are afraid she will describe based on pictures we've all seen (such as this guy "wanted for questioning"), I can't believe that they wouldn't do anything that could posssibly help.   ???

I don't know.  I think all the questions raised are warranted.  I could never put myself in their place--but I agree that the story is getting stranger and more suspicious by the moment... :(

I looked at the recent posts, and I don't think it has the makings of another Jon-Benet case. I believe whoever the kidnappers were threatened the little sister with torture and/or death. She might just be fearing for her life by making up these stories. We certainly don't want to jump into any conclusions here. But I hope these case is solved soon. :-/

It is getting creepier by the minute.  Now the police are saying that they think it was someone from the community that she wouldn't be afraid of.  I have my own opinions, but I don't like to say them.  I just hope that I am wrong.

He isn't a suspect, he is just wanted for questioning.  I don't think he had anything to do with it.  I just wonder if he knows something and is afraid so he is in hiding.  I also feel sorry for anyone who drives a green Saturn.  That is what he is driving and they are being pulled over right and left.

It has been reported on the local news here in Charleston, WV, that a man wanted for questioning in the case has been admitted to a hospital in Martinsburg, WV with a drug overdose, about 300 miles from me, in the Eastern Panhandle.  If he survives, he will be questioned about the whereabouts of the man who kidnapped the girl, and probably the girl herself.

The police here are scrambling to get flights back east to question him.  The main news radio station here in town has already tried and convicted him.  They wonder why he would run instead of coming forward to answer the questions and be arrested on warrants.  I think he was scared and ran.  I mean, if you were wanted on bad check charges etc and suddenly everyone in the state if not the country was looking for you, what would you do?  I think I would run, too.

I'm sure all us Australians wish Elizabeth back with her parents and the guilty party arrested. I just hope that it "is" the guilty party and not just a drifter who they need to close the case.
