Subject: I need some consoling right now.

Written By: jamminoldies on 06/29/02 at 03:30 p.m.

On Friday Night6/28,I left my Young Adult Program and my parents were picking me up and As I went in the car,My Mother said that"Your friend's room was on fire".I said"oh,crap,How the hell did this happen"?The next morning,I talked to him and he said that"while I was watching TV,I noticed that some sparks were flying and when I turned around, tons of plug sparks from(plug outlet)which I had my TV,Cd player and word processor, flew right on top of my bed and mad flames turned my bed to charcoal".My heart just dropped to the floor when I heard that.See,I thought that it was from his smoking because his room is severely smoky and he does it a lot and he can't help it.He's been smoking for 17 years. He's 36 years old and he's handicapped plus his Mother who lives with him has osteoporosis and asthma. They had to carry his Mother to the outside to get her to safety.Everything in his room was ruined.Man,I feel bad. He's lived a hard life.Any thoughts? -howard-(don't call me jammin'!) ;D

Tell your friend that I'm very sorry for him, and I wish him the best. When he's in a higher spirit, tell him to quit smoking too. ;)

Man, that totally sucks.  At least no one was hurt.  That is something to be thankful for.

Don't call me jammin-

What a wonderful friend you are to be so supportive of your friends!  They (and we) are lucky to have you!

My prayers go out to them both.  Thankfully they made it...possesions can always be replaced, but true friends cannot.  God Bless all of you!!!

Wow.  That must have been really scary to hear about.  I can see how much you care for your friend.

I'm glad  he and his mother got out ok, without being hurt.  It's awful to lose all his stuff, yeah.  But it would have been a lot worse if he or his mom got hurt.

I'll be keeping them in my prayers, too.

I'm sorry to hear about that, especially taking into account the hard life that he's living. Hang in there, and everything will turn out fine. I hope everything goes okay, and everything gets sorted out the way that it should.

No,My belongings weren't lost,It was his.He was in the room by himself.I was at my recrecational program at the time.It seems that his word processor, cell phone and video tapes were the ones that got the most damage. He can't run as fast cause he's handicapped and has a cast on his leg and his Mother who's 64 years old has osteoporosis which she has in her joints and it makes it difficult for her to stand and possibly walk sometimes. She gets a lot of pains sometimes. And as for asthma,When she whiffs a big"smell"she'll cough or sneeze. She's allergic to strong odors. -howard-(don't call me jammin'!) :)

I can't tell him to quit smoking. He has too many packs of cigarettes hidden from what was his room.Maybe now,he'll have second thoughts about quitting.Even his cigarettes were ruined in the blaze.I don't mind coming home and smelling like a smokestack. It doesn't bother me as much as it used to.But,It bothers my Mother and she tells me to"go upstairs and shower, you stink"! ;D -howard-
