Subject: Driving me buggy....

Written By: XenaKat13 on 06/29/02 at 07:49 p.m.

I've got a hole in one of my window screens, and the bugs are getting in.

We've had a warmer-than-normal winter, and there are four times as many insects as usual.  Somehow they are all coming to my place.  Not for the food I hope, I keep everything in airtight containers.

I have been swatting at unidentified flying somethings all day, and I can't find where they are coming from.  I can't even call the landlord about it till Monday, since a hole in the screen is not considered an "emergency".  They'd just tell me to keep that window closed till then (if I could figure out which one that is!).

Why am I being "bugged"?

"Why do bugs suddenly appear, everytime you are near?
They long to be close to you"..... :D

Well, some good old fashioned duct tape will hinder the problem, if you know which screen it is.  I would also keep lighting at a minimum...since the pests are attracted to that. Turn the lights off in the rooms you aren't using...

Or do what my sis does...vacuum the bad boys up when they are around your lights!

Or Motel 6 comes to mind.  We'll leave the light on. ;)

Good ol' no-see-ums....yes I know them well!! One thing you can do is not use perfume or anything sweet or floral smelling right now..that draws them in by the hundreds.  But since they are also drawn to carbon dioxide..and you can't stop breathing.....I would suggest if they are biting...get some OFF!!!

Take a small wad of kleenex and stuff it....in the hole of the screen. (For some reason, tonight my smileys are not there so just picture a wink!)

Well, I finally found the hole in the screen, and covered it up with duct tape.  It's at the kitchen window, where a tree fell last year.  I'm guessing one of the smaller branches poked the hole, either when the tree fell, or when the tree surgeons removed it.

My cat has managed to catch and, um, "dispose of" the ones in the house.  You don't wanna know how.... :P :-X

I've gone out and bought myself a citronella plant, and a couple of candles.  That should keep the little monsters from finding any other ways to get in.
