Subject: I am so upset at the US Navy

Written By: Screwball54 on 07/10/02 at 10:08 p.m.

As you all know I was trying to go back in to the US Navy. Well this process should have taken a week, It has taken a few months, I have turned down three decent job offers because I was planning to re-enlist.  I have lost 50lbs, dig up my old medical records, got checked out by a civilian doctor, and drove over 100 miles on six seperate occaisions, each time with the promise that "this time we are going to write you an enlistment contract".

Well after Putting forth I huge amount of effort on my part. I got my final answer today, and they Dissaproved me.  Why? because of a pre-existing medical condition that I had before I signed up for the Navy the first time.  But wait, they excepted me with that condition the first time, and its written on my discharge physical.  I even went to take a test for this condition, and I passed It.   I'm so mad right now that even If they said they made a mistake, I wouldn't join.  Guess I need to find a job.

That's a tough break, Screwball. Just another fine example of our fine bureaucracy at work.   :( >:(

Now you know how I feel about the Army and Marines. (The Marines rejected me too, and it was the best thing that could happen to me.) I don't know about the Air Force. They claim you'll be a better person, but there are a lot of psychos in the branches. It's better for you that they rejected you. They don't deserve a sane, right minded person like you. ;)

Screwball,  sorry to hear they wouldn't let you in.  You must have had a nasty head injury in the past, or something similar.  That almost stopped me from getting in years ago.  If you let me know what the problem was, I may be able to give you the reason you were not accepted.  Refresh my memory on what rate you were trying to get, also (EM? I think).  I'll help any way I can.

I'm so sorry, Screwball.  That is really messed up!  >:(  Now I see why my husband was so anxious to get out of the Navy when he did!

Keep your chin up and I'm sure things will start looking up for you soon!  ;)

I am so sorry about that...but as goldie said...things do happen for a reason, no matter how messed up it may seem at the time.  I'm rooting for you, sweetie.

I will be curious to their reasoning, however...let us know...(assuming it makes any sense and/or you want to share!)

You know Uncle Sam only wants the healthiest and most medically sound men and women to die for their country?
Just tell 'em you can scrub a toilet so clean they could eat off it!

Thanks to everybody for posting, I have an update sort of. they faxed the dissaproved waiver to me and all it said was dissaproved with the doctors sig, didn't even give a reason.  My recruiter told me someone else has a diferent medical problem to and they did the same exact thing to him.  they probally didn't even look at it just signed it, I want an explaination damnit!!!

He also said I could appeal it, but that could take months. Also I am still in the ready reserves meaning I can get called back to service at anytime, so this is just even more messed up, Oh well, guess I could get a semester of college done while I wait..

So, you're medically acceptable to be a reservist, but not good enough for active duty? Do you ever get the feeling that government is just too big? Do they even remember to apply common sense? I'll bet you're right, Screwball, someone just signed your waiver without even reading it.

Good for him! :D
My father spend 20 years in the Army, retiring in 1980. And it affected his thinking. Luckily, it was the best thing he could have done. My mom even persuaded him to serve 20 after contemplating quitting.
I wouldn't last 2 hours in BT.
