Subject: What were you almost named?

Written By: Zella on 08/01/02 at 08:42 p.m.

I'm sure everyone has stories from their parents about what they were almost named, and feelings of relief or regret at the thought....

I could have been a Judith or a Beth (thank-you no, altho' no offense to any Judiths or Beths out there); I was also almost Wallie Kathleen (but my paternal grandmother Wallie objected). I wouldn't have minded that one at all --it was at least more original than what they did stick me with.... >:(

Actually...until the doc said "its a girl"...I was suppose to be a boy...so I was gonna be Gary Richard, Jr.

Glad my folks did not decide to go ahead and stick with the original!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Like I said in the other thread, my mother wanted to name me Goldie. Thank God my grandmother was allowed to name me!!My name is unusual enough without it having to be Goldie!!

If I had been my father's first child (my mother had one child from a previous marriage) I would have been named after him, altered a little to make it feminine: Elmira.  I'm glad I have an older brother.  The other name they almost chose was my Great-grandmother's name, Lillian Rae, which I guess isn't too bad.

I believed my parents were going to name me Kelly if I was a girl, but since I'm a guy, they wanted to name me after my dad.

I think my parents always decided I would be named after a song (not sure if thats true but seems that way) :-/

If I was a boy I was going to be called Daniel (Elton John's song maybe??) and I'm called Kayleigh (Marillion) so yeah song titles all round!  :D

Well, I was always going to be called Christina if I was a girl, as both parents loved the name. If I was a boy, then it would have been Christopher. So my story isn't very interesting :)

My mom on the other hand has a better story. My grandma was going to call her Elizabeth, but my great gran wasn't having any of it. She thought the first born should be named after her. So before my grandma even got the chance to write it down, 'Despo' was written on the birth cirtificate, and my nan had to go along with whatever her mother said, as she didn't want to get on the wrong side of her. My grandma was only 16 when she had my mom as well. I guess it was normal in those days in Cyprus.

My mom hates her name so much, at least it sounds better in Greek! In English, it would kind of translate into 'Missy'!!! :)

The other "girl" name was Wendy. Yuck! And if I was a boy I was going to be Erik. Dad kept the "Erik" when he re-married. Erik is my half brother.

I was always going to be named Jessica. My parents didn't even pick out a boys name and here's why: My grandmother has a knack for telling what a woman is going to have just by looking at her stomach when she is about 5 months pregnant. I swear it's true. She has been right every single time. So my parent's knew that I was going to be a girl after talking to my grandmother. It was the same way with my sister, too.

Mom said she was positive I was gonna be a boy so they never even discussed girls names....my Mom wanted to call me Brock but dad insisted I be 5th Generation John in my family but Mom wouldn't call me just John so I got Jonathan....and they've called me just Jon ever since! LOL

My dad wanted my middle name Ulysses to be my first name,so everyone would call me Uly. :P
When my Korean aunt was pregnant with her first child, a girl, my sister wanted it to be called Constance Grace (Kim), but my uncle and aunt named her Aisha instead. Even she (my cousin) didn't like being called Aisha. :-/

My mother had the name Dagny picked out for me and my father had no say whatsoever.

My older sister, on the otherhand, was almost Dagny.  Her dad freaked, so that was out.  Then she was almost Michelle, but one of my mom's cousins beat her to it.  She ended up being Karen.

I was always going to have the name I have, but my younger brother was almost a Timothy.  That's the name both mom and dad wanted for him, but by the time he came around, mom knew he was going to be the last child.

At the very last minute, she changed her mind, and my younger brother is Richard, Jr.

I don't remember what I was going to be named if I were a girl.  But I do remember that my dead brother was going to be named Keith Christopher but when my mom went into labor, they sedated her and she began to sing the Davy Crockett song so he wound up being David Keith.

My parents once told me they were going to name me Karina, which to me isn't such a bad name, a bit un-kewl but not so bad. Then my father changed his mind and chose a more graceful name, acc. to him that is ::)

Just want to add, if there are any Karinas its not such a bad name.

My great-grandmother's middle name is Elizabeth, my grandmother's middle name is Elizabeth, my mother's name is Elizabeth (all first born daughters) and so when I was born I was gonna be Desiree Elizabeth.  But my dad was all "what about my family" so I am Elizabeth Ann (his mother's middle name).  I am glad though, I am not a Desiree.
