Subject: How Tall Are You?

A lot of people in here have posted their pictures on the boards, but you really can't tell one's height from a photo.

I'll start...

For years I went around telling people I was 5'3".  But that is wrong, wrong, wrong.  That was the height given out at my junior high school graduation.  My hair added one inch to my real height (the obligatory 80's "big hair" ), and they gave me an extra two inches for high heels.  They wanted to make sure the graduate's robes would be neither too long nor too short.

For those who don't feel like doing the math, that makes me the shortest at an exact five feet tall.  :P

Now I'm the flip side of the coin,It was hard being very tall and shy as a female when I was at school.I love it now but for years I slouched along shoulders hunched and only wore flat shoes.I think the worse aspect is that everyone did, and still does assume that I am incredibly organised, practical and capable of anything.I guess you can only be a helpless fluffy female when you're tiny and petite ! ;D

Aloha TB !

You are the man !  Eloquently put and not a word out of place, even for the last bit.

I have gone blue in the face over the years trying to convince people of the unseen obstacles that smaller-statured people (I understand that is the correct PC term, as if I actually give a ****) face.

I am just so glad to hear someone else say it.

My favourite situation is to be at work (I work for a company which has an 89% female staff) and hear a conversatioin along the lines of "Oh, my man/a man just has to be big and strong, and have lots of muscles...".  Now I don't mind people having their preferences, but I find just slightly more than a tad insensitive to say such things out loud near someone who can NEVER change to be like that.

Bless you TB, for saying well what I have just said badly....

I have to agree w/ Gis about feeling awkward about height.  When you're 5'9" in Jr. High and most of the boys and all of the girls are at least 5 inches shorter than you, it can be somewhat embarrassing.  I can't tell you how many times people assumed I was a basketball player.  My height did help in High School, however.  When I tried out for dance team the judges were impressed w/ how high my kicks were (thank God for long legs).  Although I prefer to date taller men, I've dated some wonderful guys who were average height.  It's not the height that makes the man.  Remember that, FB. ;)

Well you are all too kind and I thank you for your comments, and I tend to agree with your closing sentiments, Gis... :)

Nat, re It's not the height that makes the man....  I have no trouble with that concept and probably not surprisingly you would find, tend to push that concept myself.

However, when you are in the traditional role of the pursuer, an adolescene followed by an adulthood of trying to make the first move is difficult when you feel (sometimes as a result of other's comments) you are at an inbuilt disadvantage.

I'm not even going to go into some of the more specific feedback I have had.  :-[ >:(

A poor South African analogy would be to suggest I am a victim of Apart-Height (my apologies to those who are familiar with the British comedy, The Goodies)  :D

I am also conscious of not wanting to turn the thread into a tall versus not so tall argument.  Both virtues have their own problems that come with them.

I am quite happy with who and what I am - my point is I suppose that I wish a lot of the people who passed me over (both literally and figuratively  ::)) had taken the trouble to look at the person inside, rather then base a decision on a criteria which is non-negotiable....

Fussy (not me though  ;))

PS  Lester, just a thought....I may be able to fit into a sports car, but that doesn't mean I can reach the pedals comfortably  ;)

Smaller men are more manageable and it is for instance easier to throw them down onto the b.... oh never mind! :-X ;) ;D

Hahaha. It's funny to read these old posts.

You mean the same girls who said only tall men can make them "feel safe" and who also wrote about the idea of having a "bad height for a guy," now state it doesn't matter? Hey, it's okay. I understand. We all have our preferences. It's a T&A world out there and females play it just the same as males. We live by biological rules... there was no need to save face by making patronizing comments.
