Subject: Welcome board

I had another idea, don't know if it's been brought up yet or not.. how about a seperate board where new members introduce themseleves, instead of in the PPP?  Since it gets kind  of crowded here... just a thought..

Hi lebeiw, i'm not a board leader, of course, but i totally agree with you. It does get crowded and i'm thinking maybe that's why most of the posting is too slow.

Or at least an "I'm new here" board. I've seen boards such as that where people do give useful advice to others about the netiquette on certain areas. Perhaps this is what we need to avoid spammers and floods.

nah, Spammers generally ignore any rules they can.. they're just in rush to hit as many sites as possible...

what should the description for the board be? (The text that appears next to each newsgroup name on the main page).. write a brief two or three sentence description and if I like it, I'll add it..

Welcome
A place for newbies to say Hi, be coddled and cosseted in cosy towels, and get dried off behind the ears.

I'm starting to think you have issues..  ;D

ok.. any other suggestions? if we get enough votes we could have a vote or something? maybe I should just run with this..

maybe something about visitors becoming members?

I had all my design ideas for my companies website shot down, so I'm not feeling real creative today.. shot down is probably a harsh way of putting it.. lightly snickered at..  ;D what can I say? I'm not a designer, I'm a developer..

And damn good with a crossbow.  ;)

Don't let those stuffed shirts get to you, Chuck.

Say, along with the new Welcome Board, how about a coupon to new members for a free DD's Coffee Coolata?  ;D

You guys are scaring me...

How about something along the lines of:

"Welcome Forum" - a place for new members to introduce themselves, ask questions, and get fitted for their new feathers.

Does this software have a way for admins to do posts that always stay at the top of the first page of the forum?  If so, we could write a welcome letter, and also post the forum guidelines in there as the first couple of things new members would see...

I like that idea.  :) It sounds like a good place to start off- I remember when I started off I really wasn't sure where to go- it was really intimidating at first!!!! (But you guys all helped me settle in quicky and painlessly  ;) )

I like that.. but then again, you've always had stunning taste

I wish I could lock a thread at the top of a forum.. although that tends to get overused on various boards I've visited in the past.. maybe I'll make a prominent link on the front index or something...
