Subject: Worst present you've ever been given!

OK my inspiration for this is because I've just been on a shopping trip for my cousin's birthday, and I was wondering what your worst or strangest gifts were/have been.

Kay.

Can't think of the worst present right now. But I've hit that age and length of time married that I'm getting presents that I need not that I really want. Got a new vacuum for Christmas the year before last and I'm getting a stand alone freezer for my birthday next week. Woo Hoo  :P

My best friend bought me a jug of prune juice, which I have always hated, for me when I turned 30.  Silly girl, the next year, when she turned 30, I bought her some depends.

I remember one Christmas when I was 14, I got one of those party dresses that you wear when your little, off an old aunt. It was long-sleeved and velvet, with a satin puffball skirt! I was horrified beacuse it resembled one I had when I was 6!

I'm sure I lot of us got the dreaded fruitcake for Christmas. The worst present I got for any occasion as far as the destruction it caused was a couple pairs of boxing gloves. It was fun at first because, ironically, that time I had the most friends. But when they started using them to beat up each other, then I was forced to keep them inside the house. I never did pick them up again.

My ex-aunt gave me cheap dollar bin socks for Christmas because she didn't like me. What a b*tch!

It was the mid 80's and my mother & step father had just gotten married.  His kids didn't know me and my sister very well.  His oldest daughter bought me a Michael Jackson perfume pen.  Talk about nasty.

I appreciate every present I get. The only time I felt a little ripped off was when my brother and his wife gave me a jar of chocolate-coated sultanas two years in a row, but I had to forgive them because they're not well off and it's probably all they could afford.

Dagwood, that is just plain sick :P, I feel for you.

We have a big family get together every Christmas Eve, back when I was about 26 y/o at the time and we were doing a big gift drawing of $50 or so, I had drawn my grandfather and got him a very nice button up sweater cause he would get chilly pretty easily and spent about $70.  My Aunt drew my name and I came to 3 large and heavy nicely wrapped boxes.  I was quite excited to open them but that soon turned to bewilderment as I discover 3 sets of large wood childrens building blocks ???.  I gave them to my mother for when the grandkids and visitors children came over.  I handled it well, my mother was more P/O'd at the Aunt than I was and still mentions it.  That was the last year we did the bigger $ gift.

When I get a gift that I don't particularly care for, I try to focus on the intent and well-wishes of the giver, rather than the object.

Example: When I was 13, my brother's best friend gave a Christmas gift to both my brother and our mom. He didn't want to leave me out (I found this out later), even though he did not know me at all.  He found out from my brother that I liked Adam & The Ants, and went to the local record store to get me some music.  The clerk at the store swore that "if she likes Adam & The Ants, she'll love these guys".

It was some local band, and the music they made (if you could call it that) was horrible.  ::) I thanked my brother's friend for thinking of me.  It was a very nice gesture on his part, not wanting me to feel left out, but it is a good warning on the hazards of buying gifts for people you don't know well.

I also had an aunt who knitted.  Every year she would give us a matching hat, scarf and mitten set.  I always appreciated the thought and time that she put into making them for us, but did she have to pick such ugly colors? :P

Thank you...of course I did the gracious thing and thanked them and pretended like I loved it.  It quickly hit the bottom of my trash can when they left, though. :P

Sheets...I got sheets for Christmas one year...which would have been OK, except I was only 7.

My Mother-in-Law always gives me stuff for my B-day that I KNOW she got for free...but I fixed her wagon by re-gifting her one year.  You see, she gave her son a sweater for his B-day, which is in November.  He forgot it at her house, and she wrapped it up and gave it to him AGAIN at Christmas....so I really didn't feel all that bad...it is like the family joke to do these things! One year she gave me a leaf-blower because my hubs borrowed theirs...I told the hubs to start borrowing their car! ::)

When I was dating my ex-girlfriend Anna, her family always had
gag gifts on Christmas Day.It was like I was told a family
tradition. And I recieved a gag gift but it was the most
stupidest gag gift I got.It was one of those Radio Shack's Talking Picture Frames with a picture of cut-outs of
wedding rings to give to me.And after that,I knew what she was hinting towards me.After we broke up in October 2001,I
broke the picture frame to pieces. And that was the end of that.Thank God. >:(
