Subject: I've gone through hell trying to save sound files

Written By: PF4Eva on 09/07/02 at 12:09 a.m.

I have been trying to do soundfile quizzes, but I can't figure out how the hell you save the sound files and give them anonymous names for quizzes. I have tried like three or four times and failed. It pisses me off. Any advice? Thanks. I don't even see how that one person did it. I need full, complete instructions on how to save and how to URL the soundfiles. The answers I got were not exactly clear to me.

I'm not sure what your problem is!
Here's what I did...

Edit the original song (MP3?) using software such as goldwave (shareware - this lets you cut bits out of the music and save it)
Then save the files to some web space that you have (ie where your web page is)
The files can be named as you choose

Taoist, you probably have some programs and software on your computer that I don't. I guess that's the only explanation. What brand do you have? Do you have PC or macintosh? Apple or Windows? Windows 95, 98, or higher? How come when I put down my homepage or whatever and add the file name to it, I just get linked to the site, no sound file or anything??? I give the hell up.

Goldwave is available at..
http://www.goldwave.com/release.htmlIts for win32 (I have win XP but it will run on 98/2000)

As for your problems with your web space, I really can't help.  I have a linux box at work with root access so I don't have to care how AOL do it!
If you have a personal web page, you should be able to upload the music files and add links on your page.  Once it's there, people can d/l the file by right clicking.

I hope this helps

With the greatest of respect, if you ask a specific, yet vaguely worded question on one single aspect of the process, to which you receive a comprehensive answer .....

It is then a tad insensitive to go public and complain that "The answers I got were not exactly clear to me".

Especially when you had then written back and said it was not working and received a reply that the original answerer would respond when they could.

As you could not wait more than a few hours for that to happen (presumably not taking into account time zones differences and that some people may actually sleep), I wish you good luck.

Perhaps if you ask someone a question you may want to put a little more thought into exactly what it is that are asking, and how you are asking it...  Further, if they bother to respond to you (at your instigation, remember) you could do them the courtesy of a response.... ::)

To bounce your quote back :  It pisses me off
