Subject: "Timeless" Songs

Written By: RockandRollFan on 09/29/02 at 06:54 a.m.

Listening to my entire LP collection this weekend has prompted me to ask this question.  What are some songs that were great in thier time and yet still stand up very well today.  I realize it's going to be a lot of different opinions...I for instance, still enjoy listening to lots of stuff.  Since I have stumbled into 1972 I can give a partial list to that date. In no particular order:
Out In The Country-One-Easy To Be Hard-Try A Little Tenderness by Three Dog Night
Light My Fire-Hello, I Love You-Riders On The Storm by The Doors
I Just Wanna Celebrate by Rare Earth
No Sugar Tonight-American Woman-Albert Flasher by The Guess Who
No Matter What by Badfinger
Lots of Led Zepplin
Practically everything by Bread
Don't Worry Baby by The Beach Boys (My personal favorite by them)
And of course, The Beatles...and the Rolling Stones (For Zella)  ;) There will be many more as I move deeper into the 70's so in the meantime tell me some of YOUR Timeless Classics that make you feel just as good today as they did much to long ago.

You picked a lot of good ones RNRF. My best friend in highschool and I used to "perform" :P Bread songs for her little brothers. Eeek! A lot of the music I remember early on were my Mom's choices. She grew up in the '40's so I have a fond place in my heart for Big Band music. But, she also liked Three Dog Night (Jeremiah was a Bullfrog ;D), Steppenwolf, the Who, lots of stuff in that era. Saturday morning cleaning was always accompanied by Roger Daltrey singing, "I'm Free".

I agree with all the songs all ready stated. Like everyone on this board, I still listen to a lot of older songs.  But it would be a lot easier to list songs that I think are outdated.

Even though the song isn't very old, I like the 1994 Bon Jovi song, "Always". I could never get sick of the song. I also like "Broken Wings", -1985  "Time In A Bottle", -1973  and I love the song "Ghost Of You And Me" -2000 It is a fairly new song, but it will always be timeless to me, it is by BBMak.
