Subject: First downloaded song off the web

Written By: Shannon on 10/07/02 at 05:13 a.m.

If you are one of the many millions that download songs from file sharing programs (or whatever is available from the web).  What was the very first song that you selected for download and which program did you use?

Without hesitation it was  "I Never Cry" by Alice Cooper, using Napster.  I absolutely love that song.  The second song was "Beth" by Kiss.

My first dowloads were using Napster (before it was Larsed)
They were...

Far side of crazy, Wall of Voodoo &
The Cause, New model army

I had been looking for copies of these songs for years with no joy, Napster took 30 seconds to find both!

I tried using Napster, but it was too late…

I don't really remember the first song I downloaded off the Net, but it was probably with Audio Galaxy.  It was either some oldie or a Cledus T. Judd song (love Cledus T.!).  Any more I use WinMX, but I haven't been downloading lately because when I connect to the Net, it almost always gives me a slow server.

I was with Napster in the good ol' days of '99 ;D. I believe the first song I got was Santana feat. Rob Thomas - Smooth, then Salt 'n' Pepa- Push It and Toni Braxton - Breathe again.

I then got audioglaxy in June 2001 and first got Blue - All Rise, and then WinMX in January of this year, where I first got hold of a whole bunch of 80s classics in one day, including Billy Idol - White Wedding, Devo - Whip it and The Police - Spirits in the Material World.

Believe it or not, I just downloaded a song for the first time last week. It was "Isle of Capri" by the Gaylords (1954). I know, everybody on the board is now saying "Huh?" ::)

The Razormaid Remix of Level 42's "Something About You" on Kazaa at my parents' house.  I don't have a cd burner for my pc (yet).  I have had friends download & compile cd's for me though.

I don't remember what song it was, but I'm pretty sure I first started using Usenet for my mp3s at the time.. got the Ferris Bueller "soundtrack" that way.. (true John Hughes fans will understand the use of quotations around soundtrack)..

Audio Galaxy was by far the best music service ever.. the RIAA were misguided in their efforts in shutting that one down.. all it did was push P2P further underground

Completely agree. I dislike WinMX asits quite slow (even though I have broadband its like when I had Napster with a 56k) and you can hardly find any rare tracks onit - and I can't use Kazaa beacuse it freezes my PC. Can't win really.

I'm fairly sure the first track I downloaded from Napster was Lonely Island by The Everly Brothers.

The first download from AG was probably the Grateful Dead Cornell concert.

My first download using a file-sharing program was "Take on Me", and I used napster. My first MP3 was "Across the River" by Bruce Hornsby, I found it on a fansite in the pre-napster days, when it was extremely hard to find MP3's.

If memory serves, I believe the first song I downloaded was "Silent Lucidity", by Queensryche...and that was using the ever-popular program Napster.  I used to have it on cassette years ago but don't know what happened to it.  I don't use cassettes anymore, anyway.  :)

I've never download a song, although I've browsed around some.  It looks too difficult.

my first downloads on AudioGalaxy were the Pirate Movie Soundtrack.. very hard to find in print, most excellent that I could find all the cheesy tracks online

My dad actaully discovered Naspter before me, and I can only remember his first two downloads, the first 2 on the computer:

Sisqo "The Thong Song"
Limp Bizkit "Nookie"

I am not certain of the song, but I think it was something by Manowar... downloaded with Napster.

It still would have done now, if the public had gotten their way. It's that Lars Ulrich guy who's deflated everything in life that I stand for. Freedom on the internet to do as we wish, however we wish. One person, silencing a crowd? Why did it even happen?

I had to think and think about this one....

Def Leppard - When Saturday Comes

Got it in the days LONG before Napster.  I'd been browsing the web, a total newbie, when I came across a fan site that mentioned this song I'd never heard of before.  So I searched and searched until I found someone who had it for download.

I remember after that I got hooked on MP3's, and my next download was Rockwell - Somebody's Watching Me.
