Subject: Best Ever Guitar Solo on Record

Written By: Gabble_Ratchet on 10/22/02 at 08:13 a.m.

I myself, am torn between two (see below). I'm sure you all have your own favourite, whether it be in the style of the two I have chosen, or a little 'heavier'.

Whatever, it should make interesting reading. Look forward to your responses!!!

GABBLE

1)Dave Gilmour (Pink Floyd) - 'Comfortably Numb' from The Wall

OR

2)Steve Hackett (Genesis) - 'Firth of Fifth' from Selling England by the Pound

I've always been partial to the solo in Golden Earring's "Twilight Zone", the way it starts with drums and bass, and then the guitars kick in, and this continues for a couple of minutes...  I have to crank that up every damn time I hear it...

No WAY I could limit it to one so;Hmmmm....Any one of about 100 by Carlos Santana.
Bucks Boogie (Donald "Buck Dahrma" Roeser of Blue Oyster Cult)
Hot For Teacher (Eddie Van Halen)
Stairway To Heaven (Jimmy Page)
Twin leads:
Reein' In The Years (Steely Dan)
Green Grass And High Tides (The Outlaws)
and of course "What song is it you wanna hear?"
FREE BIRD
And in 5 minutes I'll be thinking "Now how could I have forgotten that one" about the next 20 I think of.

Great Topic!  :D

"Comfortably Numb" is quite awesome. It also happens to be my favorite song from Pink Floyd.

There are sooooo many though!!! It's tough to pick just one.

I'll stick to the aforementioned as my choice for now.  ;)

Ok. I'll have to include the one from Guns N' Rose's "November Rain" as an equal.

Done for now, again.  ;D

"(You Can Still) Rock In America" by Night Ranger....that solo rips me up!! The two-handed finger-tapping is amazing! And Aldo Nova's "Heart To Heart" solo is pretty amazing...

Eddie Van Halen's intro to "Pretty Woman" and Hendrix's "Star Spangled Banner" do it for me.

Personally, I have two favorites "Long time" by Boston and "Yellow Leadbetter" by Pearl Jam.

I don't listen to much "rock", but...

"Hotel California" by the Eagles.

Way, way too many to count: the ones which immediately spring to mind have been mentioned already -
November Rain (which I've got as my mobile ringtone)
Comfortably Numb

but also:
Parisienne Walkways - Gary Moore/Thin Lizzy

..and a bit of a cheat (as it's a guitar duet)
Phantom of the Opera - Iron Maiden

December and in fact most solos played by Tim Bricheno for ALL ABOUT EVE on their first 2 albums.

They have had 2 new guitarists since Tim left to join Sisters of Mercy who are also awesome.

If u get the chance to see this band live either acoustic or electric take it they are incredible and nice people too

I think I would have to vote for the soloing in "Caught Somewhere in Time" by Iron Maiden. Even after all these years, I never get over it.

I'll second that. I saw them live (acoustic) twice last year. Julianne is the best female singer I've ever heard. I can't narrow the best guitar solos down to one though, not even to one guitarist.
