It's due to a long-running mythology begun and expanded upon by the long-time regulars of the board, through several of it's incarnations.
You could run a search through the archives for details, (or maybe someone else will post a couple of links for you--my modem is being contrary tonight).

This caused the penguins to go underground. This past spring, a computer-savvy penguin hacked this very messageboard, and over 600 threads were lost forever, along with a few members. :'( :'(
Jonman, a longtime regular of this board, will tell you that the penguins are not evil at all, they are merely pawns forced to do the evil bidding of others.
Feel free to try a chapter yourself...

Nah, according to a psychology book I read once, penguins are about the need, and subsequent failure for escapism through the mind. It's the mind, people...
As for the board, well, I think it's pretty obvious that penguins rock.

I remember back in the 70s there used to be a commercial on tv for the boston aquarium and there was a little girl in it that said 'I can walk like a penguin' in a sing-song sort of voice and she waddled around..I still do and impersonation of that girl and usually only my brother knows what I'm on about when I do it .

Personally I think Jonman has been taken over by the penguins. We are trying to figure out a way to save him, but the penguins are very cunning.

I have been actively searching for a copy of that myself, since I do live out by Worcester, and grew up watching WLVI-56 which used to run that commercial constantly..
I used to have a plea for copies on the front page of the site, but after two months with no leads on a copy, I figure it's fairly rare at this point (you'd have to tape cartoons and not edit the commercials out, and be from Boston, which narrows the possible copies way down)...
I never even went to the New England Aquarium until I was almost an adult.. and I don't even remember seeing the penguins.. I'll have to see if my girlfriend is up for a trip there one of these weekends.. just so I can walk like a penguin >grin<

I know a little Linux.. but only because that's what the site is run on.. a good ole fashioned Linux box with Apache webserver.. has been ever since I switched from my VMS account back in 1998..

I have been to this site, and they are clearly not taking the threat seriously enough. It almost seems like a JOKE! These people will be the first to go when the Penguins make their move...
