AMEM!!

Though we dissagree on the use of our armed services, I think we ALL should stop for just a minute today and give a prayer of thanks for the men and women, past and present, who have sacrificed the ultimate gift so we have the RIGHT to disagree.

I have already said a prayer in their honor and I totally agree with what you said. I just wish both of my grandfather's were around for this day. They were both veterans, one of World War II and Korea, and the other of Korea and Vietnam.

Happy Veterans day to all.  Both my father and grandfather are vets.  My grandpa got a purple heart in WWII.  My father was a mechanic in Korea.  I admire them both.  I admire all who have gone to war for our freedom.

Does Australia get it from the same source?  We have Vet's Day because of Armistice Day from WWI.  Not to be confused w/Memorial Day, which is based on deceased vets, and which I believe was based on an earlier rite called Remembrance Day (don't quote me on this) where people would visit gravesites.  Vet's Day is supposed to focus on living vets.

Hi Rebel - sorry - took a while to find this....

Yes, same source I believe.  Certainly lots of people still call it Armistice Day.

We also have Anzac Day on 25 April - which celebrates the achievements of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.

To tell you the truth they seem to have blended into the same purpose these days - there are very few Anzacs left any more (Anzacs are generally regarded as those who fought at Gallipoli etc in WW1).

I honestly have trouble telling you which day is for which - the same thing seems to happen on each....
