I love the old stuff. Steve and Edie, Dinah Shore, Bing Crosby... The classics I can harmonize with.

All time favorite song is "The Little Drummer Boy," with probably "Do You Hear What I Hear," and "We Three Kings" neck and neck for second place.

My favourite Christmas song would have to be Bruce Springsteen singing Merry Christmas Baby.

Out of the more traditional Christmas Carols, I love the song O Holy Night.

I guess I'm a sucker for all the Xmas pop songs really. Gimme Wham! - Last Xmas, Band Aid, Mariah Carey - Al I Want For Xmas is You, Waitresses - Xmas Wrapping and the list goes on...

Question though - who sings the song, that goes 'Ding a ling a ling a ding dong ding....sleigh ride together with you....birds of a feather....' sorry for lack of lyrics - thats the gist i guess. I don't think its the original, its the one by one of Phil Spectors groups - so its got that kind of 'motown-ey' sound really. I hope someone can identity the artist for me as its been annoying me for ages! :)

Edited to add: I just found some info suggesting it could be by the Ronettes? If anyone can verify this it will be much appreciated!

I love most Christmas music. My current favourite carols/Christmas songs are We Wash You A Merry (Bathtub? Who knows...) and O Little Town Of Bethlehem... some of those songs, on CD's I own, are absolutely beautifully arranged.

It is The Ronettes and can be found on the CD "A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector."  I don't know if amazon.co.uk has it, but I know amazon.com has it 'cause that's where I bought mine…

I love Christmas music! It's all I listen to from Dec. 1 to 31!! I have a pretty big collection and I love it all.

My fave traditional song is O Holy Night..and I have many versions of it...my fave being a little known punk band called "Divine Weeks"...if you ever get a chance to pick up a CD called "A Lump of Coal" do it!! That's where I found this gem....

My fave non-traditional is, of course Jon Bon Jovi's "I Wish Every Day Could Be Like Christmas"...

The Very Special Christmas CD's are all extremely good. I love the Merry Axemas two as well....Lynyrd Skynyrd's Christmas CD is also very very good....

True - but I much prefer Wizzard's, 'I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday'! :) C'mon everybody, ''When the snowman bring the snow...'' Still, my favourite Xmas pop song is Wham! - Last Christmas. I just have a thing about the line, "A face on a lover with a fire in his heart, a man undercover but you tore me apart, now I found a real love you'll never fool me again."

Also - Thanks to Crazy Don and Lebeiw15 for verifying the Ronnettes for me. I've been downloading every different version of that song for ages to try and find the artist! :)

There's an album from my childhood (that I can not find on CD so I only have a tape recording of it).  It's by a group called The Caroleers, and it has a whole bunch of kids songs on it, like The Christmas Tree Who Ran Away, and I Want An Elephant For Christmas, and Who's That Up On The Roof?, and The Day Before The Night Before Christmas.  It brings back lots of memories of me and my sister and brothers and how much fun we used to have that last week before Christmas when were worked up into a fever of excitement.

My favorite is the Carpenter's Christmas album.  Karen's voice lends itself so well to this type of music.  I think the best track on it is "Little Altar Boy", a song that's rarely found on other Christmas albums.

I also like Kenny G's Christmas album (forget the name but it has a black cover with him holding his saxaphone).  Mannheim Steam Roller are also quite good.

Does anybody remember the Vienna Boys Choir?  My parents would play them all the time at Christmas when I was growing up. :)

Luscious Jackson does a cool version of Let It Snow.

Wham's Last Christmas always cracked me up, it reminds me of scoping out chicks in the mall in 5th or 6th grade.

Ray Conniff's Christmas songs are pretty cool too, I heard those when I was younger.

Last year I got a copy of James Brown's Christmas and on vinyl I bought a Frank Sinatra Christmas, although I still haven't listened to it as yet.

Definitley some of the best is by Bing Crosby...gotta love it.
As for funny Christmas, and I bet at least some of you have heard this before.....

"We three kings of orient are
Tried to smoke a rubber cigar
It was loaded and exploded...
POW
We two kings of orient are....."

I still crack up on that one. My sister and her class had to sing it in a Christmas play back in the day...and my brother and I got in so much trouble for laughing through it. Ah...good ole days  ;D

Generally I love most Christmas music - arranged properly.

I don't like rock-era dudes butchering this any more than I like them "singing" the national anthem.  So, I like people who sing the songs the way they were meant to be, w/o trying to jazz it up or put their own stupid inflections in it.   >:(  Mostly that means relying on the "old folks".

Best overall - anything by Johhny Mathis.   :-*  My favorite solemn Xmas song is "O Holy Night" and Johnny does it great!   :D

But there are exceptions to the rule - I like "Mary's Boy Child" by that rather recent band (80s?  90s?).  Also like old-style rockers like "Rockin' Around the Xmas Tree", "Jingle Bell Rock" and that girl-group version of "Sleigh Ride".  (No, I don't like Bruce Springsteen stuff - yikes!)  There are also country singers who do a good job - but just as many who do it badly.

Worst version ever - Johnny Cash - "Little Drummer Boy".  Yikes!  Was the guy on hash when he did this?  Oh wait, there was this stupid background-white-girl 60s-TV-show-like version of "Go Tell it on the Mountain" - OMG!  My mother is still harassed for buying that album w/that song!  "ooooo-waah  ooooooooo-wah"  Totally dumb!  It's a photo finish!   :o

That is a great Christmas album CF.  I love Karen Carpenters voice.

I also like Jewel's Christmas album and The Little Drummer Boy with David Bowie and Bing Crosby.  Santa Baby by Madonna is kind of catchy.

Well, I like all sorts of Christmas songs.  "Do They Know It's Christmas" and "Last Christmas" are good ones for sure...along with most of the songs from the Very Special Christmas series, among others.  "Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time" by Paul McCartney is a good one too.

But....my favorite Christmas album is one that my parents always played on the record player...I finally found the cd (much to hubby's dismay, I'm sure  :-The Roger Whittaker Christmas Album.  Half of it is probably due to nostalgia, but listening to it always makes me happy.  :)

After I listen to all the old favorites...I have to crank up South Parks Christmas CD.

I love Mr. Mackey's Carol of the Bells...and I know every word to Mr. Garrison's Merry F*cking Christmas.....how that song cracks me up!!!!!!

And if I want to be very sentimental....then "Christmas Time In Arkansas Again".  Two local artists wrote and recorded it in the 80's.....and that song can make me cry everytime I hear it.
