Subject: Nicknames- Did you have one?

Written By: Race_Bannon on 12/08/02 at 08:31 a.m.

Did you ever have a nickname other than those used here, ones that others gave you?  What is it and how did it come about?

The only real one I had wasn't given until I was about 30.  An ex-girlfriend named me Sparkey, no... it's not what your thinking.  It came from my at Work style, high energy-high output, that and I would spark a fire under the working crews a$$'s. ;D

i watched a documentary in law class on a mentally challenged criminal named sparky...
he would set fires and then get sexual gratification from watching the fire engines and hearing the sirens...
he did it because as a child he spent lots of time at the fire station and he was sexually abused by the firemen.

just thought i'd share that with ya.

Ya pesky kids, always nosing around, why ya would'a never found out if it hadn't been for that d'rn mutt of yours. ;)
Well Golly Thursday (and now I must say not may favorite day-o-the week) thanks for filling me in, good to know that I have something in common with an established member in the law community. ;D

Sparky was also the gay dog in South Park :) :D ;D

As for a nickname, a few close people call me "Phantom" and "Lazarus" (literary references which we've discussed ad nauseam).

For a short time in high school, I was known as "Umbrella Woman".  A couple of friends and I were going out and almost got mugged.  I beat up one of the muggers with my umbrella.  We were all into comics and superheroes at the time....

Also, for a few short weeks at my last job, people called me "Coffee Wench" after a running joke in the Dilbert cartoon.

In the cartoon, some foreign businessmen assume the female engineer is there only to fectch coffee and otherwise wait on the men.  For a short period of time, I was the only one in my workplace that knew how to work the new coffeemaker. It was all in good fun, and it wasn't long before everyone else knew how to make coffee.  I don't think I had to make another pot as long as I worked there...someone else always beat me to it.

In highschool I was called "Lund-scratch" because of my signature (you could only read the LUND part...the rest was just a scratch)...or "Boom-Boom" because I played drums...my family called me "Wonky" because of my eyes...and I broke up with a girl because of a nickname she gave me...and NO I will NOT tell you what it was...

oooh so many... where do I begin....

When I was reeeeally little I used to get Kay-Kay.  ::)

Then I got to school and was called Matilda because I read loads (that got shortened to tilda eventually)  :)

Some guy I met (a friend of a friend) insists on calling me Leigh because I always shorten my name to Kay and he wanted t be different.

I got Titch because I'm teeny.

Someone started calling me Socks for a while but I never actually found out why... I think it's because of my obsession with buying novelty socks whenever I go shopping....  :-/

Then I got called Kayza (which is German for cheese but my Grandfather doesn't know that) >:(

There ya go. that's enough for today.

My dad used to call me and my little sis "Rhoda-Ruter"

But out of my usual listed nicknames, here are my two personal favorites:

"Staples"-One time my class was working on a float and I was trying to fix a stapler and it "bit" me.  Only one person saw it happen, but he refused to ever let me forget it and so "Staples" was our own little joke.

"Burnt Noodles"-Ok, one time me & a couple friends wrote a story (by the way, please contribute to MY story thread, if you haven't been already) about a guy who said I had hair like burnt noodles.  No my hair's not fried or anything-it's perfectly healthy.  But just the more I thought of hair like "burnt noodles" the funnier it was, and they made that name stick with me.   ::)

My little sister could not say Christy....so she always called me Sissy.....and still does to this day

And my nephews (goldies boys) have a few plays on my name.  Justin (the oldest) could not pronounce Christy either....and since most people in my family call me Chris.....he would call me Aunt Piss.......or Aunt Pissy....then Jason comes along and puts his spin on it and turns it into Piss Aunt.....so that is what I still am today...and they are 14 and 12! ;D 8)

This isn't good, brotherly advice, but I was called some of those names and then some... the only way to show 'em one means business with these people is by standing up straight, taking a deep breath - and pull their hair with all your weight until they're on the ground. Then you start kicking some stomach! It works sometimes. Most people do not want to go through the aggravation of fighting every single day. I didn't mind at all. Better than taking it like a

I used to be called Cossy (Cozz-ee) based on my surname.

Now at work people tend as a joke (or not) to call everyone by their usernames on the computer system.

So now I get called Cossil.  :)

A couple of people call me Fuzzy but I suspect their reasons for doing so vary wildly  ;D

Those aren't nicknames.  Those are just jerks that are trying to make themselves look better by belittling others.  Don't listen to them, Alicia.  You are a wonderful person and they are not.  I would also suggest Tarzan Boys idea.  It will make you feel much better. ;D

In high school my friends called me Vegas, because of that guy over there.  :-*

A friend used to call me teabag.  When asked why she said I looked like one!  I suspect it was because my surname began with T.  Which led to my next nickname of Katy from my initials.

The last nickname I had at school was Fraggle because of my hair cut.

Haven't had a nickname since leaving school which was a long time ago.

"i hope you don't want children, yorgi!"

as for my nicknames...well, it's a bit scary really.
clippy: i cut my hair four years ago and it never quite grew back right, so i often use clips to make sure my hair doesn't flip out (literally!).  i'm not supposed to know this is my nick name though. ;)

doxers the Great: (yes, the G is always capital) i used to go by the alias PA_Doxie in forums, and one day i got called "doxers" and it stuck.  "the Great" was added later on. :)

boxers: instead of doxers, i thought i got called boxers.  that stuck as well.

truckie: i recorded myself saying "adieuuuuuuu!" and i sounded like a truck.

lieselette: it started out innocently enough, but eventually escalated into a story about some cross-dressers...don't ask, you really don't want to know. ;D

dog lady: i forget how this one came about...

oddxsocks: my alias here, just came about because my socks almost never match.

the fonz: smash mouth reference.  :)  my life doesn't reflect the song, but that's beside the point. (and a good thing!)

i have a lot of nicknames...

i forgot one of my favorites!
the girl from hell: i've been called this since the first grade!  it's quite amusing, and usually just shortened to "hella" or "helen."
