Subject: The Problem With Movie Releases

Written By: Child of the 80s on 02/03/03 at 07:19 p.m.

A movie with Colin Ferrell where he was supposed to be trapped in a phone booth because he was being hunted by a sniper was put off because of the DC sniper. That was months ago and the movie still hasnt been released yet why?In the movie "The Program" some football players were laying in th middle of the road while cars zoomed by some kid tried this in real life and was killed so the cut the scene from the film?Movie companies gotta realize that they dont have to cut anything out just because people are stupid enough to try this stuff. All it takes is on loud mouth and the companies bow down to them. Why not take out car crashes in movies so many die in real life car crashes everyday?"Collateral Damage" was put off because of 9-11 and I could understand that but you know somebody is gonna make a movie about it.They did with Titanic and Pearl Harbor and so many other tragedies but you know the families of the victims wont get a dime!Movies are fictional entertainment we go to get away from real life. But if real life interferes with movie life then whos to blame?

The problem with some of these (like The Program) is that the movie studios are afraid of being sued by the families (just like MTV with Jackass) and they don't want to fork out the cash.  I don't really see a problem with holding back the release of certain movies because of what is going on in our nation.  Eventually, they will most likely be released once the fervor has died down.  After all, if a company has spent millions of dollars making a movie, they don't want to just toss it in the trash.  The difference between people dying in car crashes and the other instances you mentioned (sniper, terrorist attacks, etc.) is that car crashes are accidents.  Like you said, they happen every day.  Sniper and terrorist attacks don't.

I just hope there weren't any films about space accidents waiting for a release date.  :-/
