Subject: skiing and snowboarding

apparently, this year isn't a very good year for snowboarding.  i went snowboarding for the first time back in january...i crashed to avoid running over my instructor (i couldn't do it, he was kinda cute.. ;) ) and ended up straining a tendon in my knee.  it got me out of gym for a month, so i didn't complain too much, even though it hurt like a b!tch...i still have the elevator key, i plan on joy-riding during midterms... ;D

yet i must be one of the lucky people.  my neighbor broke his wrist snowboarding, my brother's friend broke his collarbone, and this guy in my german & bio classes broke BOTH his arms!  :o

have any of you been snowboarding or skiing?  were you successful or did you make an a$$ out of yourself? (like i did... :D )

Yeah, I'm a snowboarder, which sadly led to an unfourtunately embarrsingly stupid injury that involved a chairlift....so stupid that it ending up in the "your dumbest injury" thread. But I'll think I'll pass on telling it here. ;D

I've never been snowboarding or skiing, and after reading about all these injuries, I don't plan on going anytime soon.

I suck at both.  I prefer ice skating ;)

I have only been cross country skiing once. It was ok. But the first rule of skiing is that trees don't move. I knew someone who was killed last year on the slopes. It just isn't for me.

I've been skiing once, although it was quite a few years ago. I had a lot of fun and would love to go again, but haven't had the chance as yet.  The two ski resorts here in Arizona haven't really had enough snow the last few years to even open for any meaningful length of time...

I have a couple friends that snowboard and I've been wanting to try that sport for what seems like forever.  I've heard it's so much fun.

When hubby & I were living in Colorado, we snowboarded & skied quite often.  It can be a good experience if you go to a resort (like Aspen or Telluride) that regulates the slopes (or try really hard to).  As opposed to a place like Keystone or Winter Park where they don't give a damn what people do on the slopes.  Plus, it's always a good idea to pay extra for the lessons until you are a qualified skier/snowboarder.  :)

I haven't been skiing since my kids were born, but I love to go.  The best memory I have was in Italy, when 4 of skiied down the wrong side of the  mountain and ended up in Switzerland, with no lift tickets for that side, no passports, and noone on the Swiss side spoke English.  We finally made it back, but that was the best skiing of my life.

it was a lot of fun, for the small amount of time that i was actually snowboarding (versus falling down the mountain..).  but i'm afraid to go out again next year since matt broke his arms...he always said he hated snowboarding without a reason.  well, now he has a good reason.  :) :-/

My friends took me skiing for the first time a couple months ago.  The first day, I was Mr. Wipeout.  *bam* I hit the ice.  *bam* *bam*  *bam*  I also got this cool scar down my arm.

Day two, I was gliding down the snow like it was nothing.  I had no clue how to slow down, but that just made it more fun.  My friends all commented on my marked improvement.  One of the most fun things I've ever done.

I've been ski-ing a couple of times (and yes In Australia  :o they have snow here !).

Loved it - last time was 1982, would do it again in a flash if I could, that is my type of fun  :P
