Subject: Covers...

Why does every new song out seem to be a cover?  Some covers are good, like the Dixie Chicks' cover of "Landslide", that was okay, I still liked the originial better, but it was pretty good.  But I'm kinda sick of hearing covers all the time.  I could go on and on with examples of some...

Stevie Nicks even said "Landslide" was better done by the Chicks...and they did take it to number one......so not all covers are bad.  Now some of them.....they just plain STINK!

It's not like this is anything new.  The Rolling Stones' first albums were almost nothing but covers.

I usually speak badly of covers, but, bog d@mn!, you all must hear Ultravox's cover of David Bowie's "The Man Who Sold The World"! And David Bowie's cover of The Merseys's "Sorrow" :D Completely adds new feeling to old classics.

You have got to be kidding me!!! :P Landslide is the worst cover I have ever had the displeasure of ever hearing in the entirety of time and space!!!! >:( The Dixies MURDERED that song to the point of being unlistenable (There is no single word for it in the dictionary. D@mn you, Webster!! :P lol) I condemn the Dixie Chicks and their horrific music, not to mention their horrific covers that make Michael Bolton's "When a Man Loves a Woman" sound like the original!!

Also, we've all had the displeasure of hearing Devo doing "I can't get no satisfaction," DJ Sammy doing "Heaven" by Bryan Adams, Nsync doing "More Than a Feeling," Pat Boone doing whatever the hell he was doing on that "metal" album, etc., and I must say that only Britney can pull off a successful cover of a previously successful song, as opposed to these hooligans.

That's just my opinion, though. :)

Your equal love of Britney Spears and classic rock is confusingly contradictory.

I thought that too... I don't see how someone can stand Britney Spears and then say that the Dixie Chicks are unlistenable.. oh well, just likes a variety of music I guess..

I thought the Landslide cover was v. good, I guess I am the exception to the rule as I can like a cover and the original equally, and don't have to choose one or the other to enjoy.

And I would hope for Ms Spears' career that she can do a good cover, as I certainly haven't seen any evidence that she can do originality, unless you want to call her T&A show original.  :P Just IMO.

you've not heard his cover of Don Henleys "Boys of Summer" then? :P
a textbook case of how to take a bad song and make it worse

And then again, Reba McEntire murdered the Everly Brothers' "Cathy's Clown"!
