Why do women tennis players make such a loud grunt every time they hit the ball?

If the act of hitting a ball is so difficult for them, perhaps they should stick to more ladylike pastimes such as knitting or dressmaking!

If you ever watched Al Lieter pitch, he grunts every time.

I take it you don't play tennis, huh? I went to the local courts by myself (this was a few years ago, mind ya) and the only people there were a 13 year old little girl "hitting some" with her dad. She asked me (in a voice that would make Lisa Simpson sound masculine) "Wanna play?" I gave it the ol' ::), and said to myself "I'll take it easy on her until some of my buds show up". 3 6-Love sets (in 30 minutes) later, I was sucking wind and she was saying, "Thanks for the workout Sir, seeya"!! Ladylike pastimes ::)

Well, if our opponent is male, could it just be the pure pleasure of whacking someone's balls? :o ;D
