Subject: It's finally time to dump Internet Explorer!

Written By: ChuckyG on 03/27/03 at 04:02 p.m.

I've tried Mozilla/Netscape and Opera several times over the past three years since finally dumping Netscape 4.x back around 1999. My machine at home is currently lacking a sufficient amount of memory to do stuff fast, even though it has a fast motherboard and CPU.. Just running Internet Explorer seemed like it was taking forever, and trying to view the source code for web pages wasn't functioning, so I downloaded the latest Mozilla build.

What a difference!

Mozilla loads ten times quicker than IE, and pages render quicker than any other browser I've used since Lynx back in 1995. It's just such a better looking/feeling browser, it feels like a new system. If you think your web connection is too slow, I recommend using Mozilla, it may not speed things up for you, but it certainly couldn't hurt.

Plus, you don't have to worry about rogue sites downloading software you didn't ask for (drive by downloads). I've been burned by having security features too lax on a system before.. Active-X from Microsoft is usually to blame. Mozilla doesn't support it, so there's less issues with getting something you don't want on your computer.

Yeah, I use Mozilla on my Linux system.  Great browser.  On my Windows machines, I use IE primarily, but also have Opera installed and Netscape 4.78.  Haven't put Mozilla on the Windows machines yet.

So, hey, is Mozilla free and usable on Win98?  And where do I download it from?  My software is archaic ::)

Internet Explorer keeps freezing up my computer...most maddening :P

Couldn't resist:

it's totally free from

mozilla.org

older, more stable releases get released as Netscape, but they usually have a ton of AOL crap associated with them.

so...mozilla is basically the same as netscape?  (well, that should be the other way around, but oh well.)  because i've had more problems with netscape than IE... :-/
