Subject: Stamp out Hunger

Written By: southernspitfire on 04/23/03 at 01:03 a.m.

I post this every year and I got little response from anyone......so I am here again.....to tell you in advance (for the US people) that Stamp Out Hunger is MAY 10th!!  Yes, I do believe it is also Mothers Day weekend.....but PLEASE take some time out of your day and help the ones they need to be helped.  And I am gonna keep bumping this up until I get some people to agree to help out.  Hunger is a HUGE problem in our own nation...so please help out as much as you can!!

taken from a Stamp Out Hunger website:

"Help the National Association of Letter Carriers “stamp out hunger” Saturday, May 10, 2003 for their 11th annual food drive as they collect non-perishable food items to feed the less fortunate. Residents can leave non-perishable food donations by their mailbox for pick up by their letter carrier, or take them to their local post office."

This is something I believe in strongly.....please join me in "Stamping out Hunger" in our country

and if you have a b!tch for this post.......post it somewhere else....NOT here!

Thank you so much SSF for posting this. I'm sure a lot of people know that I am very active trying to end hunger. I had just reciently became our Food Shelf Coordinator. I have been trying to get our post office involved in this for many years. This will be the first time they will participate. YAY! I will be spending that day at the Food Shelf recieving all the food.

There is something that everyone can do everyday to help stop hunger and that is click on the following website.

I posted this once before but it deffinetly is worth repeating.

I also STRONGLY believe in this cause.

I don't always post a reply, but I always have something for the mail carrier to pick up.  As a child, when my dad was out of work we depended on the local food pantry to stay alive.

Also, on Sunday May 4th, there will be a walk-a-thon for Project Bread, also to stock the food pantries and shelters, to end hunger.  It is called the Walk For Hunger, and last year over 140,000 people raised nearly $1 Million dollars (it was used mostly for milk, eggs and other perishable items to suppliment the non-perishables other people donate.)

If I can't walk myself, I find someone who is, and donate.

Thanks SS! If this were a post on politics or the war or this or that foriegn government, there would already be 5 pages of response........we sometimes have our priorities "all screwed up"! :-/
I send a donation to "Feed The Children" out of Oklahoma City, Ok. every month. If anyone is looking for a legitimate cause to get involved with, you could do worse.
Peace!!

We have worked with "Feed The Children." We had a truck from the a few years ago and someone donated a truck from them last year. I have a few reservations about "Feed The Children." All the food is donated but it does cost $5000 for the freight. That seems a bit steep to me. That is one thing that I really like about our orginazation, ALL DONATIONS go to what they are supposed to go to. Our director's and bookkeeper's salaies comes from the town. Everyone else is a volunteer.

I get a statement from them every year and every penny is accounted for. I'm like you, you have to be careful with any orginization, but I have researched this, and "Feed The Children" seems to be on the "up and up". I have no qualms whatsoever in sending them my money.

I just spent all day at the Food Shelf. We recieved 45 boxes of food and this is from a small town and we had trouble with our advertizing. I can just imagine next year when the advertizing will be better. This was the first year that our town has been involved in this. I have been pushing for it for about three years now and it finally paid off.

In the last couple of weeks we have had two big food drives come in. One, we recieved 24 banana boxes full of food. There is still one more to come in next week. The question we have now is, where are we going to put all that food?  :o But that is the least of our worries. We will find a home for it.

I just want to say to everyone who donated THANK YOU!!!
