Subject: Earliest Songs/Music Videos...

Written By: lebeiw15 on 04/27/03 at 03:12 p.m.

What are some of the songs and/or music videos you remember hearing when you were very young, like your first ones?

Mine:

Walking on Broken Glass--Annie Lennox (song)
Fields of Gold--Sting (music video)
If I Ever Lose My Faith in You--Sting (music video)
The Sign--Ace of Base (song AND music video  :P)

These I remember being played all the time, and are the earliest I can remember.  I'll get back later if I think of some more.

And I hated the music video for "The Sign".

First music videos I've seen... that I remember: ::)

INXS "Need You Tonight/Mediate"
Bobby Brown "Every Little Step"
Genesis "Land Of Confusion"

Songs:
Tone Loc "Wild Thing"
Paula Abdul "Straight Up"
Depeche Mode "Enjoy The Slience"
B-52's "Love Shack"

...of all I can remember.
Well, my relatives forced me to watch MTV...
Actually a good thing in retrospect since MTV is now awfully bad.

I love that video!!   :D

ETA:  Some more early songs I remember are anything and everything by Michael Bolton, because my mom used to play Michael Bolton tapes all the time, so I listened to his songs all the time.  In other words, I grew up listening to horrible music.   ;D

The earliest music videos I remember seeing were both by the Beatles--"Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Hello Goodbye."  Yes, they had music videos in the 1960's!

The earliest songs I remember are "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" by the Tokens; "The Theme from 'A Summer Place'" by Percy Faith, and "Stranger on the Shore" by Mr. Acker Bilk.

The first song I remember hearing was "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head".  My mom loved it and would keep playing it over and over again.

When I got bored I would go downstairs to my older brother's bedroom.  He was into the earliest form of electronic music...stuff by Jean Jacques Perry and Robert Moog.

The first music video I remember seeing was "Boys" by David Bowie.  It was sooo weird I thought he was a martian.  ::)

Next one I remember seeing (some years later) was "Hungry Like The Wolf" by Duran Duran.

I grew up with Carly Simon and Lionel Richie early on (1980s), then Amy Grant, Michael Bolton, and Celine Dion later on (early 1990s).  This was the music my parents listened to the most.  I also had several cassette tapes of my own that I listened to, namely Alvin and the Chipmunks--Urban Chipmunk.  But as a little girl I mostly listened to my parent's cassette of Carly Simon's Coming Around Again.  I listened to it so much, my parents had to buy a new tape because I wore out the first one.  I knew all the songs by heart and I was only four years old!  Can you say obsessed?

I honestly can't remember the first videos I watched.  Probably Amy Grant, Whitney Houston, and Michael Jackson.

I remember hearing Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, Simon and Garfunkel and Elvis all the time in our house.

I remeber Kylie Minogues 'Wouldn't Change A Thing' vividly, and 'Je Ne Se Pas Pour Quoi' also beacuse she was my childhood idol.

Videos - hmm, probably 'Billie Jean' and 'Uptown Girl' - very distinctive as I had them recorded on tape from TOTP Christmas 1983!!! I remember dressing up and dancing around like the girl in the 'Uptown Girl' video  ;D I was about 6!!!

When we first got MTV - 'No Diggety' by Blackstreet was the first video I watched.
