Go to any site on the net, find a picture you want to use as your avatar, right click, click "properties", copy and paste the Address (URL) to the box in your profile that says "I have my own pic"... be sure to check that box too...
Any more questions, just ask.
Oh, you can also choose on of the avatars already given (where it says "personalized picture" in your profile).

Oh, some sites don't want you using their pictures, just to warn you--it might replace the picture you chose with a "naughty" picture..

So is there some way I can preview them on my own computer ahead of time to avoid this?
And they have to be 100X100, right?

There are many sites that already have avatars set up, like www.freeavatars.net . You could google search for the avatar of your interest. :)

Yeah, thats a good site, except watch out for all those nude pictures.....we wouldn't want anything slipping out or sticking out in your avatar, if ya know what I mean ;) HAHA!
