Very superstitious, writing's on the wall
Very superstitious, ladders bout' to fall
Thirteen month old baby, broke the lookin' glass
Seven years of bad luck, the good things in your past

When you believe in things that you don't understand
Then you suffer
Superstition ain't the way

Very superstitious, wash your face and hands
Rid me of the problem, do all that you can
Keep me in a daydream, keep me goin' strong
You don't wanna save me, sad is my song

When you believe in things that you don't understand
Then you suffer
Superstition ain't the way, yeh, yeh

Very superstitious, nothin' more to say
Very superstitious, the devil's on his way
Thirteen month old baby, broke the lookin' glass
Seven years of bad luck, good things in your past

When you believe in things that you don't understand
Then you suffer
Superstition ain't the way, no, no, no

Actually, black cats are good-luck. In the middle ages, cats were associated with witches-mainly because women tend to be catpeople and it was women who were accused more than men of being witches. So, they killed off the majority of cats so they were not around to kill the rats that carryed the fleas that carryed the plegue. Black is a very pure color but because of bad propaganda for thousands of years, people have associated black cats with bad luck-when in fact, they are supposed to be good luck. I used to have two black cats at the same time. I do have one now (well, he is our "guest" so I'm not too sure if he is ours or not). So fear not! You had good luck cross your path.

I've always been taught that all cats are lucky...that they help keep away "evil spirits" and other things that cause bad luck.

My grandmother always taught me that there were three colors of cat that were especiall lucky...a pure black cat...a pure white cat...and a "tortiseshell" cat (basically a calico...but with no white fur at all).

So, in reality, this cat was a good thing for you.  :D

In the U.K Black cats have always meant good luck,I've never heard of them being bad luck before.Nearly every good luck card you get has a black cat sitting in a horseshoe on the front as an upright 'U'horseshoe is good luck too.
So fear not good luck has crossed your path ! Apparently it is meant to be more lucky depending on which direction they go in but hey who's bothered it's the fact that the cat did it at all that counts??

I heard that three color cats are condisidered lucky I think in Asia (I could be wrong)-that means calicos as well as torties. We have three cats living here-the black one, a tortie, and a calico. So, I guess my cats are all lucky.  ;D

I remember reading somewhere that ancient Egyptians reguarded cats as avatars for gods or thier familiars. If that is true Our cat must be the avatar for the god of mischief!  ;D

It was also mentioned in the Mummy movie (the one with Brendan Fraser) that the ancient Egyptians regarded cats as the guardians of the gate to the 'underworld' or 'otherworld'. They had the cat in that movie scare off the supernatural bad guy twice.

I have also read that pet cats in ancient Egypt were considered members of the family and were mourned as much as, if not more so than the human family members when they died.

And mudering a cat was a much higher-level crime than murdering a human.  :o

Bast was the Egyptian cat god. There were many statues built to honor him. Egyptians also had their cats mummified, like humans. Unfortunately, my cats STILL think that we should worship them.  ::)  ;)

I had two cats like that at one time-believe it or not, the white cat had two different color eyes. I have a picture of them sleeping with their paws wrapped around each other. It sort of looked like the Yin Yang.  :D

Mine are sort of like that too in many ways. The older one (Kismet the White) likes to lick the younger one (Pharaoh the Black) on the head between the ears. Kismet hates dogs but Pharaoh is kind of indifferent to them. He sits on top of the garbage bin in the backyard and watches my dogs goofing off.

I think you have several options.  First, always remember "Cats (and CAT ;)) the other white meat".  SEcond, you can force the cat to walk under a ladder - that shifts whatever bad luck is drifting around onto the cat.  Third, in Puerto Rico they say that a few drops of rum between you and where the cat crossed your path dispells the bad luck, especially if you smoke a cigar as you dribble it, and then take a hit from the bottle.  Just a few thoughts.  (And if you believe any of this (except about CAT) there's a bridge in Brooklyn I'll sell you - cheep) ;)

Good luck with the job. ;D  ;D

All I have to say is that I am VERY glad I am not superstitious cuz I have 2 black cats, I used to have three but she went to kitty heaven :'(. My two cats are good luck to me cuz they are the comic relief in the house. I'll stop there cuz I could talk about my cats ALL DAY.

I heard somewhere that having two different coloured eyes on a cat meant that the cat could be deaf. Did he/she ever respond to noise?

He was deaf. We would get his attention by banging on the floor or something like that.
