Subject: That one special thing

Written By: sillywabbit on 06/03/03 at 01:23 p.m.

Maybe this subject has already been hashed but I thought it might be fun to ask. ;)

For those who have found that special someone, or those who are still waiting for that special someone, what is the ONE thing that they did to capture your heart, and make you realize they were it for you? Or the ONE thing they could do to capture your heart?

I will post my answer later. :)

Respect.

With no disrespect to Rice, who said "respect" this is a complx question.  identifying one thing seems to me impossible.  Respect is certainly high on the list, but also many other things.  Chemestry,  sex, ideology, the list goes on, and on, and on.

It's because he has deleted the user.  If you notice, all of Midas' old posts and TB's (as of a bit ago) all say guest, too.

Okay, jailhouse tats removed, my 2nd biggest reason was a positive outlook on life.
This offers somone fun to be with at any time, someone that will raise the level of others peoples attitudes closer to her own.  Somone that genuinely likes people, and happy with what she has but likely to gain more (except when it comes to me ;D)
I'm not such a jerk after all, am I? ;)

That one special thing? I can't even pinpoint it - it just happened. :)

I don't really know.  We were friends for about a year prior to getting together so I guess I'd have to say "friendship"?

Other than that, we have a great sexual chemistry, mutual respect, and he treats me like a person, not just a sexual object.

I have not yet met my special someone...though I've had some near misses.

Of all the things that I think would be the "one" thing that would do it for me....in retrospect each guy I have dated or been friends with has had it to some degree....but he never turned out to be the special guy for me.

The only thing I can say...is that the right guy will make me feel complete. Whole.  If he can do that for me, little else will matter.

I don't know if I can pinpoint just one thing...One of the main ones is that he treats me with the upmost respect, he makes me feel like I am the only woman in this whole world and that I am the most important thing in his life. Even in a room full of people, he makes me feel like I am the only one there. He makes me feel safe, that I can tell him anything and he won't judge or criticize me. I feel like the luckiest woman!!!

My heart skipped a beat back in 1972....7th grade registration...when I first saw her.  At the time I was in love but didn't know what love meant.  I didn't win her heart as she and I chose different paths.....in 1980 we hooked up as friends and went out to lunch....lost touch...1983....to quote her: "I saw you running down Cheyenne Canyon....your tanned body, scantily clad with sweat pouring down your chest...we made eye contact as I sat in my car and you ran past and disappeared."  On ground-hog day of this year I was shopping for a friend who insisted I go to Wal-mart for deli meat....I met her again...we BOTH were always looking for "Love" and had settled for the comfort of someone we thought cared....now we're both free to be with each other...FINALLY.....31 years in the making...we have found all those things (Happiness, Respect, Comfort, Desire, Passion and the list goes on & on) in each other!  I Love Elizabeth and she loves me :-*

The One for me, was a culmination of special things, but the clincher was that he trusts me with his secrets and I would trust him with my life. What it is goes beyond love...I guess.  ;)

Zella, I think your answer is best. "It just happened."  :)

For me...it's something that can't be explained.  So rather than try to find the words, I just savor & cherish every moment of it. :)

I know for me, she makes me feel complete, whole.  But I can't pinpoint anything specific.  Commonality.  Positive outlook.  Likes ME.  Trusts me.  There can't be a ONE thing.  It's just enough to know she IS the one for me.

Yes, it is like coming home. It is like missing something your whole life and not knowing that you were missing it....and now can't imagine being without them. :)

I agree with a lot of people, you can't pin it down to JUST ONE THING. It is a lot of things, little and big. Respect is a big thing. Chemistry is a big thing. But, giving you a kiss for no reason is a little thing. Not making you feel stupid because you cry at a stupid movie is a little thing. But all of these things add up to one thing LOVE. I am not talking about just telling someone that you love them. That is easy and sometimes very meaningless. But to SHOW someone that they love them, takes a lot. To be happy in their triumphs and sad in their defeats. To be there when the Sun is shinning and when it is raining. To have that person a part of you and you are a part of them. Like I said, it just can't be summed up in one thing because it is basically everything.

It IS hard to pin point just one thing.  When we first met, it was basically like the beginnings of most new relationships.  Everything's more exciting and new, etc etc.  Well, with him that newness never really has worn off -- we just seem able to keep everything new & refreshing.  Also, about 6 months after we started dating, I went through some really tough times, and he stayed by my side through all of it, when he could have easily walked away.  It sounds corny, but it's true:  we just seem to complete eachother.

If I HAVE to say one thing, it's the fact that he can ALWAYS make me laugh, no matter what's going on.  Sometimes, even if I happen to be fuming mad at him over something, he can STILL make me laugh!  This December will be 13 years since we started dating, and next March will be our 10th wedding anniversary...so maybe laughter IS the best medicine!   :-* ;D
