Subject: Songs and Memories

Pretty self explanetory really. Are there any songs that make you laugh when you listen to them. Are there any that you can't listen to beacuse they make you cry? All beacuse they remind you of something that happened in the past?

I have so many 'song' memories. Listening to Glen Medieros, 'Nothings Gonna Change My Love For You' makes me laugh beacuse the song is so cheesy and I remember my old aunt going on about how she thought he looked really good in his video!! Fergal Sharkey - A Good Heart always cracks me up beacuse ( apaprently - I don't quite remember as I was 1!) my mom had to record his TOTP performance on tape beacuse I would stop crying if I heard the song ;D

I always feel happy when they play a Smiths song in a film or on a TV programme ;D !! They played 'How Soon Is Now' and 'Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now' on 'Cutting It' last night and in last weeks episode. May sound a little weird, but it makes me happy! :]

Last time I heard Toni Braxton, 'Breathe Again' it made me burst out crying beacuse I thought I was about to break up with my boyfriend, and I really didn't want to. We then broke up a month later, and I was a little happier about it then! Loads of songs remind me of our relationship, too many to list. And most of them are awful!! (Ini Kamozee - Here Comes The Hotstepper is one!)

I can't listen to Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle because it makes me cry.
Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles always
makes me very happy. It was the song that was playing when we pulled out of the parking lot of Childrens' Hospital after my cerebral palsy doctor told me I was doing so well she didn't want to see me anymore.
Save the Best For Last by Vanessa Williams was this year's prom theme song. I love it.

Drive by The Cars makes me cry because I always picture the Live Aid video.

Jake the Peg by Rolf Harris makes me laugh especially when my daughter sings it.

Madonna "Material Girl" will remind me of this field trip I took at school...we had a party/dance at the end of the first night, and everyone was jumping around to this song. :D

Spin Doctors "Two Princes", the "Electric Slide", and Four Seasons "Oh What A Night (December 1963)" will remind me of family gettogethers. Similar situation to the aforementioned Madonna thing.

Blur "Song 2" is my ultimate sports anthem.

Alanis Morrisette "Ironic" reminds me of my childhood (not that long go, lol), as will Blues Traveler "Runaround", Weird Al "Amish Paradise", Barenaked Ladies "One Week", Jewel "Who Will Save Your Soul", Beatles "Yellow Submarine", and Naked Eyes "Always Something There To Remind Me". I remember these songs in particular.

A song that makes me feel all tingl-ey is "Let Me Be the One" by Def Leppard.

"In the Living Years" and "Wonderful"(by Everclear) make me cry. "Bring me to Life" by Evanescence moves me to tears as does "Don't Follow" by Alice in Chains.

"Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again" by the Angels makes me laugh.  ;)

"More Than This" by Roxy Music and "Can't Do A Thing (To Stop Me)" by Chris Isaak are the first two that came to mind, but there are plenty more ranging from "Open Arms" by Journey to "Freshman" by The Verve.

They all have a special meaning to me.

"meet virginia" by train and "every morning" by sugar ray both remind me of going camping.  "every morning" also reminds me of driving around this city in new jersey and almost getting my grandmother's car door taken off by a tractor trailor... :o

"adam's song" by blink-182 reminds me of seventh grade.

"sorry" by smash mouth and "10 seconds down" and "cash" by sugar ray remind me of my one friend because we're slightly obsessed with both songs. :D

"cotton-eye joe" reminds me of this guy i used to have a huge crush on because he and his friends did this weird act in a talent show with it.

"cash" by pink floyd reminds me of weight lifting because during gym last year we listened to a classic rock station.

and finally, "losing my religion" by REM reminds me of cross dressers.  (um...don't ask.)

good question...

"Welcome to the jungle" by Guns and roses reminds me of my high school life as a wrestler because it was our song that was played at practice and before our matches..."Foreplay/Long time"-Boston was also played at practice almost every day, and reminds me of wrestling, but one stands out...this year, we were scrimaging another school, and the team captain brought Zeppelin's greatest hits volume 1, and the song, "What is and what should never be" reminds me of that day, conditioning over and over again, having no clue when it was over.  Thats why I disliked conditioning, you never knew when it was gonna end, and this long long song was the one playing at the time of this one in specific...

with the passing times, I must say that there are certain songs that remind me of summer, and certain ones that remind me of other times of the year...mostly the stuff that comes out at that time... for example, "Landslide" by the Dixie Chicks reminds me of earlier this school year, towards the beginning, and "Somewhere out there" by Our Lady PEace, reminds me of summer, preforably the summer before this school year...

a lot of Four Tops songs, um, just to name a few others, "Lightning strikes"-Lou Christie, "Kicks"-Paul Revere and the Raiders, "Last train to Clarksville,"/"Im a believer"/"A little bit me, a little bit you"-Monkees, "If you could read my mind"-Gordin Lightfoot, "98.6"-Keith, "Build me up buttercup"-Foundations, "Remeniscing"/"The other guy"-LRB, "MTA"/"Tijuana Jail"/"Green backed dollar"-Kingston trio, "Laugh laugh"-Bough Brummels, "Happy Together"/"Elenore"-Tutles, amoung many more remind me of family vacations because my dad's made tapes were always played and listened to after teh radio lost reception...and due to these, I am now used to, after hearing, "Just a little" by the Beaugh Brummels, hearing "Im into something good"-Hermans hermits, and after "Heroes and villians" by Beach boys, "Chantilly lace" by the Big bopper...scary

Above that, "Falling for the first time"-Barenaked Ladies, reminds me of the Cooperstown vacation taken by me and my family two years back because, when me and my dad were in the car, the tape was temporarily ejected, and on the different radio signals, that song was playing...so that will always remind me of that vacation...

Madonna's Music reminds me and my dad of Oxford Street in London. We were in HMV (A major store that sells things like music, videos, posters and computer games)on the day the song was released (21st August 2000) and the video was played several times

The Fast Food Song by the Fast Food Rockers reminds me of Brownies because in the chorus they sing, "A Pizza Hut, a Pizza Hut. Kentucky Fried Chicken and A Pizza Hut. A Pizza Hut, a Pizza Hut. Kentucky Fried Chicken and a Pizza Hut. Mc Donalds, Mc Donalds. Kentucky Fried Chicken and a Pizza Hut. Mc Donalds, Mc Donalds. Kentucky Fried Chicken and a Pizza Hut." I remember singing it at Brownies.

HMV Oxford Street is the best music shop in the country. Nay, the world! Just thought I'd point that out.

Songs with personal memories for me? Given that I forget my own, that's easy enough.

The first song I ever remember listening to - Field Of Opportunity (1978) by Neil Young, as a mini four year old. Strangely I remember the second as well. It was That's The Way (I Like It) by KC And the Sunshine Band (1975). Can't call it starting as I meant to go on, but there you go...

You're Gorgeous - Babybird makes me smile because when my nephew was first learning to speak he used to try and say 'gorgeous'.I can remember dancing round the room to it with him in my arms.
Buck Rogers - Feeder  always makes me think of being on holiday in Dublin because we just kept hearing it.
Dancing Queen - Abba  always gets me up and dancing.
Love bomb baby - Tigertailz and 7 O'clock - Quireboys have fantastic memories attached to them............

The song "It Might Be You" by Stephen Bishop always brings a smile to my face. It's the same song that Rice Cube dedicated to me a few months ago on Renegade Retro. I would have to say it's the sweetest thing that any guy has ever done for me.  :)

I'd like to do something for him too, but the only thing I can think of doing is giving him....uhhh....nevermind. ;D

Rod Stewarts version of "Have I told you lately that I love away" reminds me of  my prom, and the only friggen slow dance of the night...it was the only one, but a memorable one.....

um...Welcome to the jungle, Crazy train, Paranoid, Night train, its so easy, Mr Brownstone, Sweet child o mine, and basicly everything off Appittite for destruction and Every Ozzy/Sabbath album remind me of high school wrestling practice....our wrestling song was Welcome to the jungle......um...Amber-311 reminds me of some friends of mine, JohnLennons Jealous guy reminds me of senior year because whenever me and my friends would want to make some people we didnt like leave, we would start singing this song....they left.....

um...Dont you forget about me because it was our prom song, and ergo it reminds me of my high schools class...um...The white stripes seven nation army reminds me of the Nonsense humor magazines office, because that song, as well as Zwans whole album, and Attack of the ghostriders-Raveonettes, and the beatles Revolver and let it be were on continous rotation ....BTO's taking care of bussiness reminds me of my first year in  college.....um...I can think of songs that remind me of specific people, but Im not gonna go through them now

The Cure's "Lullaby" always reminds me of a crazy old lady and McDonald's.  The song first became popular when I worked at one...and there was one regular customer...who would always come by an accuse us of putting spiders in her food...and only in *her* food....every time she went off her medication.

"Face To Face" by Siouxie and the Banshees always reminds me of the all-musical episode of Xena:Warrior Princess.  Yeah I know it was for one of the Batman moves, but listening to the words, she could also be singing about the interplay between Xena and Ares.."I want this bliss, but something says I must resist".

I first heard Deep Purple's "Perfect Strangers" when I was reading Michael Moorcock's Elric series...from now on one will always remind me of the other.

OOOOO  I almost forgot!!!!

Weird Al's "One More Minute"...it's one of his originals..not a parody.

For some reason it got a lot of radio play around the time I was splitting up with my ex...even though it was several years old by then.

It will always remind me of my divorce...and how glad I am to have gotten rid of that freak.

"I'd rather jump naked into a swimming pool full of double-edged razor blades.......than spend.....one more minute.....with you...."  ;D ;D ;D ;D

FROZEN by Madonna cracks me up. I was once in the Megastore(Times SQ, New York) and the video came on. What happened next was like something out of a movie or something. As soon as the video started, people went quiet, stopped wherever they were standing and just stared up at the big TV with amazed looks on their faces. I was the only fool standing there laughing.

MURDER SHE WROTE by Chaka Demus & Pliers brings me back to my days of going to dozens of House PArties when I was 16. Just imagine a roomful of teens humping eachother to reggae music LOL!

The Whole DEEP FOREST album(the first one)
I was part of a Youth theater Group(UYT). Our teacher would start off by having us warm up with Deep Forest playing in the background. My years in UYT were  some of the best in my life.

"Caught In The Sun" by Course Of Nature

That song has two memories.
April 12, 2002 I had the song played for my girlfriend at her school dance. It was the song that I wanted to be playing when I asked her out, but I stuttered for way to long and the song eventually ended, so I ended up embarrassing myself even more when I took her into the hall, and finally she got the idea and just said yes, so I technically never asked  her out.

Until....

May 30, 2003 When I intended to have "So Far Away" by Staind played for her, but the cd was enhanced and collided with the DJ Equipment, so I once again had "Caught In The Sun" played for her and so I asked," Will you go out with me" and she said," Yes" and then out of no where we had our first French Kiss :-* http://ghettojohn.ma.cx/pica.html and it was something else, and may I say, that its quite cool to have a song.
