Anything by Leif Garrett - Indicative of the decline of civilisation as we know it…

Classic - Adrian Gurvitz - Classic, alright - classic garbage that is...

Good song:  Avril Lavigne - I'm with You.
Despite the annoying "yeah yeah" part, I really do like this song.  Woulda liked it even more two years ago, when I was a whiny depressed little s***.
Bad song:  Avril Lavigne - Losing Grip.
What a useless tuneless piece of dreck.  This is the first song I've heard from her that had absolutely no redeeming qualities.

Good song:  The Cure - Love Song.
Brilliant musicians, but even more importantly, Robert Smith was a brilliant songwriter and lyricist.  The simplicity in these lyrics are stunning.
Bad song:  Depeche Mode - People Are People.
In contrast, we get Martin L. Gore and the awful line "People are people so why should it be that you and I get along so awfully."  The song is a tuneless dirge and should be immediately destroyed.

Good song:  Pearl Jam - Better Man.
Pearl Jam's catchiest tune, Vedder's most moving lyrics.
Bad song:  Creed - My Sacrifice.
Compare Vedder's empathetic song about an abused woman to Scott Stapp's continued ode to his own ego.  That, more than anything else, is why Creed sucks.

Good song:  Powerman 5000 - Free.
Sure, they only have radio play because the lead singer is Rob Zombie's little brother, but they distinguish themselves from the rest of the nu-metal crowd by showing that they at least know a good melody when they write it.
Bad song:  Linkin Park - Crawling.
Powerman 5000 is also cool because the lead singer has a good metal voice, whereas Linkin Park still sounds like Beavis trying to sing.

Good song:  Kylie Minogue - Love at First Sight.
She picks her songs well.
Bad song:  Madonna - Music.
She does not.

Good song:  Counting Crows - Anna Begins
I love this band, even through all their faults, even though they keep inspiring other, infinitely crappier bands such as
Bad song:  Train - Calling All Angels
who seem to keep putting out albums with one hit song of little importance and nothing else of interest

To be honest, Linkin Park, particularly their new stuff, has been growing on me.  However, what I really can't take about them is the angsty, self-important "my pain is the only thing that matters in the entire universe" feel of their music.  Their lyrics sound like they were written by a guidance counselor.  And I really truly hate their riffs.

"He's So Fine" bores me.  It leaves me cold.  I love "One Fine Day" though.

"Against the Wind" is by Bob Seger, and everything about Bob Seger grates on me.  Bob Seger music to me represents everything bad about classic rock radio.  Words are failing me as I try to describe why I hate the guy so much, but to me he is a dull unappealing figure, a throaty passionless version of Mellencamp.  It's not to say that he doesn't have songs I like, "Katmandu" for example, but the classic Bob Seger ballad sound is something I will never be able to stand.

today's songs are:

good songs
eurythmics - "sweet dreams"
madness - "our house"
red hot chilli peppers - "can't stop"
the sweet - "ballroom blitz"
green day - "basket case"
lou bega - "mambo no. 5"
the offspring - "kick him when he's down"
reel big fish - "trendy"
sugar ray - "10 seconds down"
and everything smash mouth, of course.

bad songs
avril lavigne - all of it.
(although...i found her cover of green day's "basket case" to be amusing because it was bad...)
50 cent - all of it.

i'm not feeling too negative today. :)

Im sorry, but I just dont see how Linkin Park have any fans...in my opinion, no offence, theyre the worst band Ive ever heard...

If you've only heard the songs they've had on MTV and the radio, then I can almost see your point...but if you listen to their whole album(s) and still maintain the opinion that they are the WORST band...than I don't understand the way you think. :P :P :P ::)

I unfortunatly have listened to all of Hybred theory and I must say it is awful....I just dont like it...I dont like their music one bit and I do feel that they are one of the worst bands of the last five years along with their musical contemperaries Limp Bizkit, Korn, Paparoach, and the rest of the nu-metal/post RATM rap-rock scene.........

WHINE! ANGST! WHINE! SCREAM! RAP! WHINE!  I'm supposed to listen to that for an entire CD?  I don't think so.
I try to keep an open mind, but listening to Hybrid Theory would mean having to listen to "Crawling" and "One Step Closer," songs I already know are terrible, plus at least a couple songs which sound similar.  If you have any suggestions of good Linkin Park songs that don't get airplay, I'll try to listen to them, but keep in mind I'm already predisposed to hate it.

I agree with your Good Song/Bad Song comparisons there.

Linkin Park has instrumental stuff. "Cure For The Itch", "Session", "Kyur4 TH Ich" (a remix of Cure Of The Itch), and non-album tracks "A.06", "Technique", and "Secret".

Also, if you ignore a few of the lines, you'd probably like "Nobody's Listening" (has an awesome Japanese flute sample looped).

They have some unreleased earlier stuff that isn't angst, including a few "disses" on how lame the music scene is today, rap inparticular. Try "Reading My Eyes", "Stick N Move", "Step Up", and "Dedicated".

Anything else I figure you won't like.

Songs I love atm:

Go Go's - Tonite, Can't Stop The World, Good For Gone, Beneath The Blue Sky, Head Over Heels,Turn to You (I'm going througha major Go Go's obsession phase :))

Evanesnece (or however it's spelt??) Bring Me To Life - I think its great, but the guy kinda sounds like the Linkin Park lad, and that's not so good!! (I really don't understand the fascination with them either and have liked none of LP's songs!)

iio - At The End

Idlewild - Everyone says you're so fragile, When I argue I see shapes, I don't have the map, Tell me 10 words, These wooden Ideas, Actually It's Darkness (My fav band of the present - check their earlier stuff out :))

Shed Sheven - On Standby, Chasing Rainbows

Radiohead - Fake Plastic Trees, Street Spirit, Karma Police, High and Dry

Bluetones - Mudslide

Style Council - Walls Come Tumbling Down

The Beat - Tears Of A Clown

My favourite has always been Space Odyssey by David Bowie. My least favourite would be "Tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree"

I love that song (Space Oddity I think the proper title is)...it still makes me cry when I play it.

Mind you so does nearly every song I listen to!
