I started off in Accounting.  Then when it looked like I might have become a stay-at-home mom, I switched to dressmaking and design with an eye to saving money on clothes.

That's no longer an option any more....so when I do go back it will be for Acconting, to finish off my studies and get my degree.

And somewhere....out there....my elementary school teachers are in total apopleptic shock.....

I was sooooo baaaaad in math as a child....

And why not?

I started as a History major, with a minor in Geology, did Latin American History for my MA & PhD, and then did "class, Race, and development" for an ABD in Sociology.  Hated high school - loved college (so never left  ;)), and Graduate school was even better.

I will be majoring in radio broadcasting when ever I manage to get to the west coast. I don't know what I would minor in but I'll think about that when I get there. If i ever decided to not go into radio I would go for a business degree and work on opening a record store....like in Empire Records, or High Fidelity, or Pretty in Pink,....those are some of the movies that gave me that idea. But definetly broadcasting b/c I am fascinated by radio and I hope it doesn't get replaced by satallite radio or anything else.

Great choices Alicia. I love anything having to do with Forensics. It's amazing how you can backtrack from a crime and know everything about the victim and the perpetrator. My Dad wanted to go into Forensic Medicne but he became a dentist instead and always regretted it.
I bet you're a CSI fan? Have you read any Patricia Cornwell books? If you add Law to the mix, you'll have an amazing amount of choices in your future.
Go fo it all!

Psychology Major w/ double Minor in Sociology and Social Work.

Good field when I started; bad field when I finished (Computer Tech and Business Admin took over the world).

My freshmen year I was a Computer Science major, then switched to Business as a sophomore. Neither one appealed to me, and it reflected in my grades. I have a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications & Film and I double minored in Journalism and English.

I majored in English.  Never quite had the gift with numbers.  But like MissInformation, writing has always been one of my favorite things to do.  And reading comes pretty close too.

I would like to encourage all of you to pusue your interests on whatever level makes sense for you.  If you can't manage formal classes, read in your area of interest - contact a professor of your subject for advise on what to read.  And for you youngsters, follow your interests, the $$$ will follow.  And don't sell yourselves short.

I once had an advisee who asked if she could major in both business and science.  Strange combo I thought, so I asked her why.  She had straight A's in her first semester.  Want to be a doctor, she said, but want something to fall back on.  My advice was "go for what you want.  If you don't get into Med school, how abouit a Ph.D in biology?  What could be wrong.  Visualize it, do it, make it happen."

Study, learn, read.

Hee hee, how could I miss such a golden opportunity to pimp one of our classic parodies?  ;D

Phony Major!

Try not to take offense, this was tongue in cheek and we are both science majors so it's pretty much a given that we gotta make fun of non-science majors (who are intelligent, but in different fields than we) ;)  Enjoy!

P.S.  Don Carlos, if you click on the "help" link on the top of this page you should be able to learn how to resize the picture in your sigline because it's really big and that kinda bugs me :-/

As ever the education system is different in the U.K but I did Art and Art History at college and apart from painting as a hobby at home have never used it since !! With hindsight I wish I had had better advise at school as I would have liked to do history but it wasn't an option at 'O'level time so i didn't concider it as an option at 'A' level.

I didn't make it to college but I wish I had.  I had planned on majoring in secondary education and minoring in History.  I wanted to become a high school history teacher.  I had a great History teacher in 9-11 grades...changed my views and made me love history.  I wanted to make that difference in someone elses life.

Sorry it bugs you.  Went to "help", but not being very computer literate, none of the menu items seemed right.  Which one do I go to?

It's never too late, Dagwood.  I didn't start myself until I was 26.  I still haven't finished, but I'm going to.

There are lots of scholarships you can get, and there are subsidized loans too.  Many colleges have a "continuing education" program geared for adults who work and/or have children.

That's what I'm looking into now. Good luck!

My plan has been to get my credit cards and my house paid off.  I only have 12 yrs left so it shouldn't be too hard to do early.  When the little one is old enough to leave alone for a couple of hours in the evening, I am going to start taking evening classes.  It might take forever, but I will be the 90 year old graduate! ;D

ABSOLUTLEY never to late.  Although we hated each other, my Ex mother-in-law graduated from Rutgers University at 67.  My advise is to start as soon as you can, even with just one evening class a semester.  Also, contact a professor in your area of interest and ask for a reading list.  My experience is that non-traditional students are THE BEST.  I'm sure your local faculty will be supportive.  If not, let me know and I'll personally kick there butts  ;)  ;D
