Subject: From a long time ago... (this is for chucky)

Is there any way to get the listing of music groups and their songs and albums. I remember you also had a listing of movies and who was in them, and users could post comments about them and rate them. What happened to this? Do you still have the info saved anywhere? Will we ever see it again?

One more quicky. I think I would be willing to pay a one time fee to become a member to access this kind of info. I used to use it in the days of napster when I wanted to have the ultimate collection of music. Anyways, it was just a passing thought. Would be nice to click on "B" and see every band from the 80's that started with that letter.

Here is a link to the Internet Movie Database. As for the groups, I don't have a link for that yet. I hope this helps.

Thanks for that link.

What I was originally thinking of was somethig I would have swore was at the www.inth80s.com page. Maybe it is my memory that is slipping, but I thought there was a complete listing of every band and movie from the 80s, some quotes from the movies, ratings by members of how good it was.

nope nope, you're not imagining.. I did indeed have something like that.. it got to be a nightmare to maintain, and it just had too much stuff in it that was either wrong, or not well edited.

It also wasn't nearly as comprehensive as the imdb movie and TV database, and allmusic.com is online for music questions, so I felt it was just ending up like a poor imitation of their work, so I stopped it. I do have a movie quote collection still hanging around:

I actually use the Joel Whitburn chart books for looking up stuff that may have been popular, but that I forgot. (I have an awful memory for some things).  I've been able to track down (with help from some fairly cool people) every song to reach Billboard's Hot 100, Album Rock, and Modern Rock charts during the 80s. I'm working on several other charts at the moment.

Eventually, I hope to begin writing an 80s music trivia book.  Since I've been out of work, I've gotten a lot of my preliminary research done, so something I used to only dream about, may at some point become reality.
