Does size really matter when It comes to cups at fast food places? Especially when they have free refills?   ::)

You know at Starbucks they think there're "cool", by the names they give their cups:

Small is "Short"
Mediam is "Grande"
Large is "Tall"

What kind of crap is this?

On the average I pay $1.25 for an unlimited refills drink.  But I know what you mean, if you wanted to keep drinking you just buy the cheapest refillable drink and keep filling that up.  But I think they try to make it so that you carry less out of the restaurant with you, or something.

I try very hard to drink the $1.25, although it probably costs the restaurant maybe 10 cents in water and syrup to give me my 200 fluid ounces of Mountain Dew or Dr. Pepper ;D  One time Watt actually was told he couldn't have any more, HA!

"Urban Myth!" he yelled.

You know what I hate about drinks from McDonalds or Burger King? Firstly, they never get the syrup/water mixture right, and secondly, when I go to the drive-thru by myself to grab four meals and take home, they give me these huge cups that I have to balance on the front seat until I get home, and they always spill. Why can't they give me cans or bottles like they do at KFC and Taco Bell?

KFC and Taco Bell give you cans?  I need to go there!  Anyhoo, I happen to LOVE McD's Coke mixture.  It's the best out there.

My pov on the whole size issue is that even if you order the largest one, there is more ice in it and, if you check, the actual amount of beverage is not that significantly different.  I used to work at a restaurant that had small or large.  Although the glasses appeared to be different sizes, the small was actually larger in diameter than the large, and the amount of liquid that each would hold was the same.  Just something to ponder... ;)

Well, in this country they do!

BTW, is it true that Coca-Cola is made with corn syrup in America? That would make it taste somewhat different to the Coke we have here, don't you think?

That is confusing. I would think a "Grande" should be the largest, because it is so Grand. A "tall" can mean anything. Who cares if it is tall and skinny and gives you next to nothing, like those powerdrink cans. I would change the names.  ;) ;D

I don't even pay much attention to size because I just order a combo meal and take whatever cup they give me.  I fill it up and if I'm thirsty I walk back up and fill it again.  I never really noticed what size cup you get like with a Number 2 at McDonald's or a Roast Beef Combo at Arby's.  So no I would say size doesn't matter to me.

I went to the movies over the week-end, and was shocked at the size of a large Mountain Dew. The guy behind the counter tells me that it comes with free refills, but this cup had to hold at least a litre and a half of pop! Who could possibly drink that much soda in two hours and have to run back to get a refill?

I drink that much in a half hour sitting if the waitress doesn't mind running back and forth for me ;)

Okay, so 1.5 litERs...(gotta spell in American)...that's like, what, almost 2 quarts?  That's nothing :D

That reminds me... we were at a movie on a field trip a couple months ago, and me and three other friends shared a jumbo popcorn.  We each paid a dollar since a jumbo popcorn is four dollars.  This was an IMAX movie which was only about an hour long, and each of the four of us got stomach aches from too much popcorn!  And of course, the jumbo popcorn has free refills ::).  How do they expect one person to want a refill on a jumbo popcorn in an hour's time when FOUR people shared ONE jumbo popcorn and got sick? :P

The answer is that they don't actually expect anyone to want a refill, but they offer it as a bonus. Concessions at the cinema are so over-priced they need to offer something! I'm not aware of cinemas offering refills here in Sydney, though. And the large cups are 1.5L. That's even more than the standard bottle of pop you get from the supermarket here. If you were drinking that much during your average 90 minute film, you'd

1) spend the next half hour after the film in the toilets

2) be climbing the walls for hours later

3) end up with diabetes

:)

Dude, our politics may be different, but we should go drinking. Any man who can drink two liters in half an hour an not take a leak that night is okay with me.

Hehehe, the sugar makes me jumpy...I usually have to either calm down or let someone else drive me home ;D

For booze...I can down the booze by the pitcher in minutes, but after a few more minutes it comes crashing down on me and I do the incredible rolling trick ;D  So I try to spread out the boozing over a couple hours, but if I'm dared I'll go for the gusto and do the speed-boozing ;)

Is he the one who said George Bush hired an assasin to kill his daughter at her wedding becuase he ran for president? Or did aliens visit him? I think he would have made a great president, just for the entertainment value.
