Subject: sequals

Written By: Billy_Florio on 07/21/03 at 00:06 a.m.

ok, we all know the rule of sequals....its gonna suck....but this isnt always true, there have been in the past, a bunch of sequals (or prequals) that have been better, or equal to the original in quality..or even a little less, but still good.....then there are movies that have 3 or more in the series....some of them lose their goodness because of the sequals (Friday the 13th), while some are still just as good (Terminator, Star Wars)....also, how bout we try to name some of the worst sequals ever, and some of the sequals, that had a few good parts, but were nothing like the original at all....

good sequals:
the star Wars series: Empire strikes back, Return of the Jedi, Attack of the clones
Hot shots: Part Duex
Terminator series: Terminator 2, Terminator 3 (though none are better than the original Terminator)
National Lampoons European Vacation
Airplane! 2: the sequal
the Pink Pather series: A shot in the dark, Return of the Pink Panther, the revenge of the Pink Panther, the Pink Panther strikes again
The Godfather part 2
Another 48 hours
Rocky series: 2, 3
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

sequals that kind of fall short, but arent the worst..they have memorable scenes:
SCary movie 2 (saved from the worst list only for its opening with the exorcist parody)
The Sting II
The Godfather Part 3 (you need to see it once...and thats it)
American Pie 2 (not that bad, but it could have been better)
Rocky 5
The Phantom Menace
Friday the 13th 2
Star Trek 4
Dumb and Dumberer

Just plain out awful:
Scream 2
Porkys 2
Friday the 13th 3-whatever the are up to now
Nightmere on elm street 2-whatever they are up to

and we all know the Star Trek odd/even rule lol

what you got?

Scream 3
The lost world(Jurrasic park)
The mummy returns

and to bad
Jurrasic Park Three(AWEFUL MOVIE!

The Empire Strikes Back, Mad Max: The Road Warrior, Godfather Pt 2 and Aliens are all superior to the original films. The Phantom Menace was a painfully awful film; if not for the Star Wars legacy it would have bombed massively. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is flimsy and Kate Capshaw is annoying beyond belief. The Last Crusade was much better. :)

Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle is better than the first and so is Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets. I still like the first versions of these films though.

What makes Friday the 13th bad is that there's something like 10 sequels, after the original.

I've always liked Terminator 2 better than the first one (even with that annoying Eddie Furlong).

Ah, thanks for mentioning The Road Warrior.  No list of sequels would be complete without it. ;)

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was Spielberg and Lucas' apology for The Temple of Doom.   Very entertaining and endlessly comical...nearly a comedy.

Would've been even better without that annoying Scottish actor... :P ;D

*PS - Billy, turn off your computer, get in your car, hurry down to your local video store and rent the "Mad Max" series, okay? 8)

I loved Mad Max and Road Warrior but Not Beyond Thunderdome.Nothing like the other two....too flashy and hi budget.Gimme low budget Aussie films with unknown handsome stars!

I really hate to admit it but I like the Leprechaun movies ::)

:P :P >:( >:( >:( :-X :-/ :-/ :-[ :-[You forgot Grease 2,starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Maxwell caulfield. That has got to be the suckiest sequel of all time :P :P :P!!!!!!!!!!You knew right away it was going to suck when you saw the opening credits--it was like disco or something!!!And this takes place in 1961---still well within the golden era of rock and roll. The whole movie was just so dreary!Yeeech!!!!!I'm glad I never paid to see it(I saw it on cable).Cheers!

News flash for ya - I'm almost 40 and I still love "Toy Story" and "Toy Story 2".  I watched both Harry Potter movies as well.  So if you're kinda sad, that makes me downright pathetic I guess  ::)

There's nothing wrong with childrens films! most of the recent ones have humour aimed at adults too.I loved both Toy Story films and Shrek.I fully intend to go and see Piglets big movie too ! I went to see the Tigger one with my sister and we had such a laugh (admittedly we probably weren't meant to but hey !)
There was something in the paper last week about there being 13 sequals coming out this summer and so far most of them have bombed.
