Subject: HELP! How Do You Get A Bat Out Of A House?

Written By: Hairspray on 08/14/03 at 09:44 p.m.

I have tried getting it to go out of a window, but it's stubborn and keeps circling around.

Any suggestions from the peanut gallery? ;D

Edited to add: This is happening RIGHT NOW! :o :D

Well, it perched itself in a nice, dark corner. It looks so cute, I decided to let it stay the night. I'll just get rid of it in the a.m., somehow.

It's not a vampire bat, fortunately. Those are mostly found in South America. This kind eats flying insects. Besides, I will definitely be closing my bedroom door. ;)

If it were in MY house, the first thing I'd do is get the hell out! ;D  #2 on the list would be to call Animal Control.

I think probably what he meant is that some bats carry rabies so you have to be careful they don't bite you if you are holding them, not meaning to alarm you or anything.........

Yes this is what I meant. Bats carry all kinds of diseases, rabies being the most common, but there was a story here a few years ago of a woman in Queensland who was bitten by a fruit bat who died of some kind of blood disease a few days later. Bats have also been known to carry plague.

keep it as a pet. Maybe it'll turn into a vampire and go Greetings,"blah, blah,I come to get some blood". ;D ;)

Oh, I gotcha. ;D

Thanks for the advice everyone!!! You guys and gals are the greatest.

This morning, I found it perched outside of my bedroom. :o
It looked so peaceful there, sleeping. I took the opportunity to grab a cardboard box and place it over it, quickly closing the flaps. I had successfully trapped it. I carried the box outside, a good few feet away from the house, and set the bat free. :)

I wish I'd thought to snap a pic of it. Then again, the flash may have scared it away and complicated things. Oh well. 8)

So you got bats in your...just kidding  ;D

Many years ago, one got into our bedroom.  The Ex was nursing my sone, and threw herself over him.  I got a slipper, and after several swats finally knocked it out of the air, threw a towel over it, and took it outside.  Next morning it was gone, either revived and flew away, or a cat got it.  Animal control is good, or a fishing net might work, if you have one handy.

Let us known the outcome.
