Subject: What is everybody's middle name?

Written By: Bobo on 08/15/03 at 00:06 a.m.

A companion to the First Name thread. Anyone out there who was lucky enough to have been given a middle name? Not me. My two younger siblings have one each, and my mother, and most of the people on her side of the family, but not me :(

So, what is everyone's?

No apologies for stealing a thread from Mike. Sorry, but it was just a fantastic idea.

It's better to have no middle name than to have a stupid one.  Mine sucks, I don't think I want to tell it to people.  :-/

I always hated my middle name and usually don't tell too many people. (I have to know you very well in order to tell you). I also hate my last name too-that is why I am going to change it in a few months.  ;D

:o :o :oI like the idea of 2 middle names,if they're not too long.Mine is Therese, but my mom didn't know how to pronounce it when she named me--she pronounces it Te-Reese--almost like the singer.Since it's a French or german name,it really should be Teh-Rez or Te-Ray-Seh.Funny thing is,I'm older than the male singer who has almost the same name,so I wasn't named after him.I think this is one of the top 10 names, including Jesus  and Colon, that should be off-limits to English-speaking parents. But I don't have to use it much anyway :PCheers!

i did the same thing at my confirmation, using my grandfather's name as my confirmation name.  (sydney, he spelled it with the "y," too.)  the one mean church lady started yelling at me and told me that my grandfather's name wasn't reconized by the church so it wasn't a "real name"...the day BEFORE the confirmation.  (the priest ignored the mean lady though. ;D)

Oh goody! I get to rant! :D

Like 99% of all the female children born in the 50s, I got one of those 'disposable' middle names. You know, the ones that parents put about 3 whole seconds of thought into... ::)

"Lynn"

Every female my age that I know has one of those disposables: Ann, Jo, Sue, Marie, Jean etc. etc...

I also note that in the 40s, 50s and early 60s, females also got short-changed on real first names too, having 'nicknames' on their birth certificates like:

Betty
Kathy
Sandy
Cindy
Patty
Nancy
Sally
Peggy

instead of being given the full version:

Elizabeth
Katherine
Alexandra
Cynthia
Patricia
Anne
Sarah
Margaret

Not one girl I went to kindergarten with had a 'real' name... :-/

The boys on the other hand did not get the same sloppy treatment from their parents -You better bet if they were called Bobby, Jimmy, Ricky or Tommy their birth certificates really said: Robert, James, Richard, Thomas....  >:(
