Subject: my thoughts on Grease

Well, I just watched the ending of it again for the who knows how many time, and theres still just something I don't understand.......
How can people go together like ramma lamma lamma ka dinga da dinga dong, or be remembered forever as shoo-bop sha whada whadda yippidy boom da boom?

Somehow I don't see the connection.......

Being born much later, Ive always wondered, was it a requirement in the 50's that you had to be able to sing and dance?  I mean, whenever I watch some movie about the 50's, everyone is either singing, or dancing or both.....this even includes movies Made in the 50's....I mean, from watching these movies, I get the sense that every high school student, no difference on how big you are, or social ranking or anything, was forced to dance and sing together at any given time.  This also includes gangs.  I mean, if West Side story taught us anything, its that in the 50's, the gangs were much more flamboyant.  They would break out into a song and dance at any given time.  Im telling you, this use of show tunes would not fly today.  If one of the Latin Kings stopped fighting and broke out in his rendition of "Sit down you're rockin' the boat", I don't think he'd live to fight another day.  And don't even get me started on if he sang "I feel Pretty"...For this reason Im glad that Im living in the 2000's and not the 50's.  For one, I can't sing or dance, and two, I don't have to worry about hearing on the news that two gang members were stabbed while doing the bunny hop.....but then again, maybe that would cause a decrease in gang violence.  If I alter a page from Dennis Leary here, if we show potential gang recruits that all the gangs sing and dance all the time, maybe it might scare them away from joining.  Yeah, it might scare them into doing a profession where they would never have to be that whimsy, like Policeman (oh wait, I just remembed Cop Rock)....so this is my solution for gang violence: bring back the gangs of the 50s!  At least then, a rumble was entertaining even when it wasnt on the evening news.

You're right, all that stuff they're singing does sound like gibberish.  It doesn't make much sense, and I really don't think they cared if it did.  My hunch is that they just chose it because it sounded good for the time (the 50's).  :-/

Grease is a wonderful film, and one that I never get tired of watching. :D 8)

How on earth can you find fault with Grease?
If you think about it the lyrics do go together so that answers your first question....also you remembered the film and the second part of the chorus so that proves them right all round  :P

What really bothers me so much about Grease it is like Sandy has to change to make Danny like her. I think that love is excepting the other for exactly who they are.
